Area Code 259 – Ninh Thuan province

Overview of Area Code 259

Area code 259 is the geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the province of Ninh Thuan in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Under the ITU-T E.164 international numbering plan, the full country calling code for Vietnam is +84, so numbers in Ninh Thuan are dialed internationally as +84 259 XXX XXXX (where X represents the local subscriber number). Domestically, callers within Vietnam must prefix the area code with a trunk prefix '0', resulting in the format 0259 XXX XXXX. This code is part of Vietnam's closed numbering plan, meaning the full national significant number (NSN) is 10 digits, including the leading '0' when dialed domestically.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Ninh Thuan is a coastal province in the South Central Coast region of Vietnam, bordered by Khanh Hoa to the north, Lam Dong to the west, Binh Thuan to the south, and the East Sea to the east. The provincial capital is Phan Rang–Thap Cham, which is the largest urban center and primary economic hub. Other notable towns and districts served by this area code include Ninh Hai, Ninh Son, Ninh Phuoc, Thuan Bac, Thuan Nam, and Bac Ai. The code covers all fixed-line telephone services within the province, including PSTN and VoIP landlines, and is administered by the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA) under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

• Local calls (within Ninh Thuan): If you are calling from a landline within the same area code, you may dial only the 7-digit subscriber number (XXX XXXX) in most cases. However, due to the prevalence of mobile phones and VoIP, it is always safe to dial the full national format.
• Domestic long-distance calls (from other provinces in Vietnam): Dial 0259 followed by the 7-digit subscriber number. For example, to call a landline in Phan Rang from Hanoi, dial 0259 123 4567.
• International calls (from abroad): Dial your country's international access prefix (e.g., 00, 011), then Vietnam's country code 84, then the area code 259 without the leading '0', followed by the 7-digit subscriber number. For instance, from the United States, you would dial 011 84 259 123 4567.
• Mobile calls: Mobile numbers in Vietnam do not use geographic area codes; they have their own non-geographic prefixes (e.g., 090, 091, 098). Therefore, when calling a mobile phone in Ninh Thuan, you dial the mobile number directly with the '0' prefix domestically or +84 internationally.

Overlay and Numbering Plan Considerations

As of the latest update, area code 259 does not have an overlay code; it is the sole geographic code for Ninh Thuan. However, Vietnam has been transitioning to a unified 10-digit numbering plan for all fixed and mobile services. Since 2017, all fixed-line numbers have been standardized to 10 digits (including the trunk prefix '0'), and the area code is an integral part of the national significant number. No changes to area code 259 are currently planned, but users should always verify the current dialing instructions with their service provider when making international calls.
