Area Code 204 – Bac Giang province

Overview of Area Code 204

Area code 204 is the geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the landline telephone network of Bac Giang province, located in the Northeast region of Vietnam. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA) under the Ministry of Information and Communications. Bac Giang province shares borders with Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, and Bac Ninh, making it a strategically important economic and administrative region.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 204 area code covers all districts and cities within Bac Giang province, including the provincial capital Bac Giang City, and districts such as Viet Yen, Hiep Hoa, Tan Yen, Lang Giang, Yen Dung, Luc Nam, Luc Ngan, Son Dong, and Yen The. The province is known for its industrial parks and agricultural products, particularly lychee, which has led to a growing demand for reliable telecommunication services.

Dialing Formats

For local calls within Bac Giang province, callers can dial the subscriber number directly without the area code, provided they are using a landline within the same geographic charging area. However, for calls from other provinces or from mobile phones, the full national format must be used: 0 204 XXX XXXX. Internationally, callers should dial +84 204 XXX XXXX, omitting the leading zero. For example, a local number in Bac Giang City might be 0204 385 1234; from abroad, you would dial +84 204 385 1234.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

Currently, there is no overlay code for Bac Giang; the 204 code is unique to the province. Subscriber numbers are typically 7 digits long, making the total length of a national significant number (NSN) 10 digits (including the leading zero). As of recent years, Vietnam has been transitioning to a unified numbering plan, but the 204 code remains unchanged. Callers should always verify the number of digits when dialing, as some older numbers may have fewer digits.

Caller Instructions

For local callers within Bac Giang, simply dial the 7-digit subscriber number. For callers from other Vietnamese provinces or from mobile networks, dial 0204 followed by the subscriber number. For international callers, replace the leading zero with the country code +84. It is important to note that while mobile numbers in Vietnam are non-geographic and start with different prefixes (e.g., 09x, 03x), landline numbers with area code 204 are tied to the physical location of the line.

Economic and Social Relevance

Bac Giang has experienced rapid industrialization, with many foreign enterprises setting up manufacturing facilities. This has increased the need for clear and reliable communication with business partners. Understanding the correct dialing format ensures seamless connectivity for both domestic and international calls. The area code 204 is an essential part of Bac Giang's telecommunication infrastructure, supporting both residential and commercial users.
