Area Code 6249 – Debaltsevo, Donetsk

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Context

The Ukrainian national destination code 6249 is a geographic area code assigned to the town of Debaltsevo (Debaltseve) and its adjacent settlements within the Donetsk Oblast of eastern Ukraine. Administratively, Debaltsevo is a city of oblast significance, and its numbering zone falls under the national numbering plan administered by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies (UCRF) in accordance with ITU-T E.164 recommendations. The code 6249 is part of the Donetsk regional cluster, which historically uses prefixes in the 62xx range, with 62 being the primary area code for the Donetsk region.

Dialing Formats and Call Routing

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix 0 is used before the area code. Thus, a local number in Debaltsevo is dialed as 0 6249 XX XX XX (where X represents the subscriber digits). For international callers, the country code +380 replaces the trunk prefix, resulting in the format +380 6249 XX XX XX. It is important to note that the area code is not separated by a leading zero when dialing from abroad. The subscriber number length within this code is typically six digits, making the total national significant number (NSN) length nine digits (excluding the trunk prefix).

Geographic vs. Non-Geographic Considerations

As a geographic code, 6249 is tied to the physical location of the fixed-line network infrastructure. Calls to this code are routed via the PSTN to the specific exchange serving Debaltsevo. However, due to the ongoing conflict in the Donbas region, some areas may experience service disruptions or may be served by alternative providers. Nevertheless, the numbering plan remains officially allocated, and callers should use the standard dialing procedures. For VoIP users, it is essential to ensure that the service provider supports routing to Ukrainian geographic numbers and that the correct international format is used.

Practical Instructions for Callers

• Local callers (within Ukraine): Dial 0 6249 followed by the six-digit subscriber number.
• International callers: Dial your country's exit code (e.g., 00 from most European countries, 011 from North America), then 380 6249 and the six-digit subscriber number.
• Mobile callers: When calling from a Ukrainian mobile phone, the same national format (0 6249) applies, but be aware that mobile tariffs may treat calls to fixed lines differently.

Always verify the current status of the region's telecommunications infrastructure, as local conditions may affect service availability.
