Area Code 6248 – Gorlovka, Donetsk

Geographic Overview and Administrative Jurisdiction

The Ukrainian national destination code 6248 is a geographic area code assigned to the city of Horlivka (Gorlovka) and its surrounding settlements within the Donetsk Oblast. Administratively, this code falls under the jurisdiction of the Donetsk regional telecommunications operator, which is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Ukrainian State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection. The code 6248 is used for fixed-line PSTN services, and it is allocated to the Horlivka city council area, which includes the city itself and adjacent localities such as Panteleymonivka and parts of the Horlivka raion.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Ukraine, the local dialing format requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. For example, to call a fixed line in Horlivka from another Ukrainian city, you would dial: 0 6248 XX XX XX. If you are calling from within Horlivka itself, you may be able to use the abbreviated local format (without the area code), but this depends on the specific operator and local dialing rules. For international callers, the country code for Ukraine is +380, so the full international format becomes +380 6248 XX XX XX. Note that the leading 0 is omitted when dialing from abroad.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the current numbering plan, there is no overlay code for Horlivka; the 6248 code is the sole geographic code for the area. However, due to the ongoing conflict in the Donetsk region, some fixed-line services may be disrupted or rerouted. It is important to note that mobile numbers in Ukraine are non-geographic and begin with prefixes such as 50, 63, 66, etc., and are not affected by this area code. Number portability is available for fixed lines within the same geographic area, but porting to a different region is generally not permitted.

Practical Usage and Examples

When providing a Horlivka number to an international contact, always include the country code and omit the trunk prefix. For instance, a typical Horlivka landline number might be +380 6248 3 45 67. If you are dialing from a mobile phone within Ukraine, you can use the same national format: 0 6248 3 45 67. Always verify the current status of the line, as some numbers may have been migrated or decommissioned due to the regional situation.
