Area Code 5754 – Gemini, Kharkiv

Overview of Area Code 5754 (Gemini, Kharkiv)

Area code 5754 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned within the Ukrainian national numbering plan, specifically serving the Gemini district of Kharkiv (also known as Kharkov), the second-largest city in Ukraine. This code is part of the +380 57 numbering cluster, which covers the Kharkiv region. The 5754 prefix is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services, connecting subscribers in this area to the national and international telephone network.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The Gemini area is a residential and industrial neighborhood located in the northeastern part of Kharkiv, within the administrative boundaries of the Kharkiv City Council. The code 5754 is allocated to local exchanges that serve this specific district, ensuring that calls to numbers beginning with +380 5754 are routed to the correct geographic location. Kharkiv is the administrative center of Kharkiv Oblast and a major cultural, scientific, and industrial hub in Ukraine.

Dialing Formats and Procedures

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix 0 is used before the area code. Thus, to call a number in Gemini, you would dial: 0 5754 XX XX XX (where X represents the subscriber's local number, typically 6 digits). For international callers, the country code for Ukraine is +380, so the full international format becomes: +380 5754 XX XX XX. For example, a local number 123456 would be dialed as 0 5754 123456 from within Ukraine, and as +380 5754 123456 from abroad.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

Currently, there is no overlay code for the Kharkiv region; the 57 area code remains the sole geographic code for the entire region. However, due to the growth of telecommunications services, some numbers within the 57 range may be assigned to VoIP operators, but the 5754 prefix is primarily associated with traditional fixed-line services. Subscribers in this area can keep their numbers when switching between fixed-line operators, thanks to number portability regulations in Ukraine.

Caller Instructions

When calling from a foreign country, always replace the leading zero of the national trunk prefix with the international access code (e.g., 00 from most European countries) followed by 380. For example, to call the same number from the United States, you would dial: 011 380 5754 123456. For local callers within the same area code, it is possible to dial only the subscriber number (without the area code) in some cases, but it is recommended to use the full national format to avoid confusion, especially when calling from mobile phones.

As with all geographic numbers in Ukraine, calls to 5754 numbers are charged according to the tariff of the caller's operator, and they are not considered toll-free or premium services. Always verify the number with the recipient to ensure accurate dialing, as misdialing may result in reaching an unintended party in a different part of the Kharkiv region.
