Area Code 5743 – Izyum, Kharkiv

Geographic Overview and Administrative Jurisdiction

The +380 5743 prefix is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the city of Izyum and its surrounding district in the Kharkiv Oblast of eastern Ukraine. Administratively, this numbering area falls under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian National Commission for State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NKRZI), which manages the national numbering plan in accordance with ITU-T E.164 recommendations. Izyum serves as an important industrial and logistical center in the region, located approximately 120 kilometers southeast of Kharkiv city.

Dialing Formats and Number Structure

When calling a fixed-line subscriber in Izyum from within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix '0' is dialed before the area code, followed by the local subscriber number. The complete national significant number (NSN) for Izyum numbers is 9 digits, formatted as 0 5743 XX-XX-XX. For example, a local number might be 0 5743 2-12-34.

For international callers, the Ukrainian country code +380 is used, followed by the area code without the leading '0'. Thus, the same number would be dialed as +380 5743 2-12-34. It is essential to omit the trunk prefix '0' when dialing from abroad.

Local and Long-Distance Calling Instructions

Local callers within Izyum may sometimes dial only the 6- or 7-digit subscriber number, depending on the specific exchange and local calling area definitions. However, for reliability, it is recommended to always use the full national format, especially when calling from mobile phones.

Callers from other regions of Ukraine must dial the trunk prefix '0' followed by the area code and subscriber number: 0 5743 XX-XX-XX.

Foreign callers should dial the international access code (e.g., '00' from most European countries, or '011' from North America), then the Ukrainian country code 380, the area code 5743, and the subscriber number: +380 5743 XX-XX-XX.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

Currently, there is no overlay code for Izyum; the 5743 area code is exclusively used for fixed-line services in this geographic region. However, number portability is available in Ukraine, allowing subscribers to retain their numbers when switching between fixed-line operators within the same geographic area. It is important to note that while the prefix is geographic, some VoIP providers may offer virtual numbers with this code, enabling businesses to establish a local presence in Izyum without physical offices.

Practical Usage and Tips

When saving Izyum numbers in your contacts, always store them in international format (+380 5743...) to ensure proper dialing from any location. Be aware that calls to Ukrainian fixed-line numbers are typically charged at higher rates than local calls when dialed from mobile networks, so consider using VoIP or calling cards for frequent international communication.
