Area Code 5740 – New Waterlog, Kharkiv

Geographic Overview

The +380 5740 prefix is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the fixed-line telephone network serving the settlement of New Waterlog (also known as Novi Vodolaha) in the Kharkiv Oblast of eastern Ukraine. This area falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the Kharkiv Regional Council and is part of the broader Kharkiv metropolitan region. The code is used for traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) services, including analog and digital fixed lines, as well as VoIP-based fixed services that are registered to this geographic location.

Dialing Formats

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix '0' is used before the area code and subscriber number. The complete national format is: 0 5740 XX XX XX (where X represents the subscriber's individual line number). For international callers, the country code +380 is used, followed by the area code without the leading '0', resulting in: +380 5740 XX XX XX. For example, a local number might be dialed as 05740 12345 within Ukraine, or as +380 5740 12345 from abroad.

Geographic Coverage and Overlays

The 5740 code is dedicated to New Waterlog and its immediate rural surroundings. It is not an overlay code; it serves a distinct numbering area. The Kharkiv region uses multiple area codes, with 57 being the primary code for the city of Kharkiv itself. The 5740 code is part of the 57x series, which covers smaller towns and settlements in the Kharkiv region. There are no current overlay plans for this area, meaning that the number length is fixed at 9 digits after the country code (including the leading '0' for national dialing).

Caller Instructions

Local callers within New Waterlog can typically dial the subscriber number directly without the area code if they are on the same local exchange, but for clarity and due to varying network configurations, it is recommended to always use the full national format. Callers from other regions in Ukraine must dial 0 5740 followed by the subscriber number. International callers should dial +380 5740 and then the subscriber number. When calling from a mobile phone in Ukraine, the national format (0 5740 ...) is used, and charges may apply according to the caller's mobile plan.

Numbering and Portability

As with all Ukrainian geographic numbers, subscribers may have the option to retain their number when changing operators within the same geographic area (fixed number portability). However, geographic numbers cannot be ported to other regions. The subscriber number length for this prefix is typically 5 to 7 digits, depending on the local exchange capacity. The total number of digits after the country code is 9, including the leading '0' for national dialing.
