Area Code 5664 – Nikopol, Dnipro

Overview of Area Code +380 5664

Area code +380 5664 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the city of Nikopol and the surrounding Nikopol Raion in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast of Ukraine. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies (UCRF) under the framework of ITU-T E.164. The geographic area covered by this code is situated in the south-eastern part of Ukraine, on the banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir on the Dnipro River. Nikopol is an important industrial and transportation hub, known for its manganese mining and ferroalloy production.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The +380 5664 code serves the city of Nikopol and several adjacent settlements within the Nikopol Raion. This raion is part of the larger Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, whose administrative center is the city of Dnipro (formerly Dnipropetrovsk). While the oblast is large, the 5664 code is specifically dedicated to the Nikopol area, distinguishing it from the Dnipro city code (056) and other regional codes. The area is characterized by a mix of urban and rural communities, with the city itself having a population of approximately 100,000 residents.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Ukraine, the local dialing format requires dialing the trunk prefix 0, followed by the area code 5664 and the subscriber number. The complete national significant number (NSN) length for geographic numbers in Ukraine is typically 9 digits, which includes the area code (without the leading 0) and the local subscriber number. For example, a typical Nikopol landline number might be formatted as 0 5664 5 12 34 when dialed domestically.

For international callers, the format is: +380 5664 5 12 34 (or +380566451234 when written without spaces). The plus sign indicates the international access prefix, followed by Ukraine's country code 380, the area code 5664, and the subscriber number. It is important to note that the leading '0' of the domestic trunk prefix is omitted when dialing from abroad.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the current numbering plan, there is no overlay code for the Nikopol area; the 5664 code remains the sole geographic code for this region. However, number portability is in effect in Ukraine, allowing subscribers to retain their numbers when switching between fixed-line operators, provided they remain within the same geographic area. This means that a number with the 5664 code may be serviced by any licensed fixed-line operator, but the geographic association remains tied to the Nikopol area.
