Area Code 5359 – Hrebinka, Poltava

Overview of Area Code +380 5359

The telephone area code +380 5359 is a geographic destination code within the Ukrainian national numbering plan, assigned to the city of Hrebinka and its surrounding administrative district in the Poltava Oblast (region) of central Ukraine. This code is part of the larger +380 53 numbering area that serves the Poltava region, with 5359 specifically routing calls to Hrebinka and nearby localities. As a geographic code, it is tied to a physical PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) infrastructure, although calls to these numbers may be terminated over modern IP-based networks by the local operator.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Hrebinka is a city of district significance, serving as the administrative center of the Hrebinkivskyi Raion (district). The area code covers the city itself and the surrounding rural settlements within the district. The region is primarily agricultural, with Hrebinka functioning as a local economic and transport hub. The code is allocated to fixed-line subscribers, including residential and business lines, and is managed by the national incumbent operator (Ukrtelecom) and alternative fixed-line providers that have been granted access to the local loop.

Dialing Formats and Instructions

Understanding the correct dialing format is essential for both domestic and international callers.

• Domestic calls (within Ukraine): To call a Hrebinka number from another Ukrainian city, dial the trunk prefix 0, followed by the area code 5359, and then the subscriber's 5-digit local number. For example, if the local number is 12345, you would dial 0 5359 12345.
• International calls (from abroad): Callers outside Ukraine must use the international access prefix of their country (e.g., 00 from most European countries, 011 from the US/Canada), followed by Ukraine's country code 380, the area code 5359 (without the leading zero), and the 5-digit subscriber number. For instance, from the US, you would dial 011 380 5359 12345.
• Local calls within Hrebinka: In many cases, local calls may be dialed using only the 5-digit subscriber number, but this depends on the operator's dialing plan. For clarity, always use the full national format when calling from a different region.

Numbering Plan and Overlay Considerations

Ukrainian fixed-line numbers are typically 9 digits long after the country code, including the area code. In the +380 5359 area, the subscriber number is 5 digits, making the total national significant number (NSN) 9 digits (5359 + 5 digits). Currently, there is no overlay code in Hrebinka; the 5359 code is unique to this area. However, as telecom services evolve, the national regulator (NCCIR) may introduce additional codes if demand exceeds capacity.

Caller Instructions and Practical Tips

For local callers within Hrebinka, using the short local dialing format may be possible, but for reliability, especially from mobile phones, it is recommended to always use the full national format (0 5359 XXX XX). For international callers, ensure you drop the leading '0' of the area code when dialing from abroad. If you encounter difficulties, verify the subscriber number length and check with your service provider for any specific dialing requirements. Calls to Hrebinka are generally charged at standard national rates for domestic calls and international rates for calls from abroad, depending on your operator's tariff plan.
