📍 Geographic Location of Poltava
Geographic Overview
The +380 53 area code is assigned to the Poltava region of Ukraine, a geographic numbering area that encompasses the city of Poltava and its surrounding administrative districts. Poltava serves as the administrative center of Poltava Oblast and is a significant industrial, cultural, and educational hub in central Ukraine. The region is known for its agricultural output, engineering industries, and historical landmarks.
Dialing Formats
When calling a landline in the Poltava region from within Ukraine, subscribers must dial the national trunk prefix 0, followed by the area code 53, and then the subscriber's seven-digit local number. The complete national format is 0 53 XXX XX XX. For example, a local number might be formatted as 0 53 123 45 67.
For international callers, the Ukrainian country code +380 replaces the trunk prefix. Thus, the same number would be dialed as +380 53 123 45 67. It is important to note that the leading '0' of the national trunk prefix is omitted when dialing from abroad.
Local vs. International Calls
Local calls within the Poltava area code do not require the area code if dialing from a landline within the same geographic region; however, mobile and VoIP users typically must include the full national number. For callers from other regions of Ukraine, the national long-distance format 0 53 is required. International callers should always use the +380 prefix.
Numbering Plan Considerations
The Poltava area code is part of the Ukrainian geographic numbering plan, which follows ITU-T E.164 recommendations. The total length of a Ukrainian national significant number is nine digits, including the area code but excluding the trunk prefix. Therefore, the Poltava code '53' plus the seven-digit local number results in a nine-digit national significant number. There are no current overlay codes for Poltava, meaning the 53 code is exclusively used for this geographic region.
Practical Guidance
For businesses and individuals establishing communication with Poltava, it is essential to verify the correct dialing format based on the caller's location. Always confirm the subscriber number length, as some older lines may have fewer digits. For VoIP and mobile users, ensure that international dialing rules are properly configured to include the +380 country code.
