Area Code 4848 – Saratov, Odesa

Overview of Area Code +380 4848

Area code 4848 is a geographic numbering plan area within the Ukrainian national numbering plan, administered under the country code +380 (Ukraine). This code is assigned to the Odesa region (Odeska oblast), specifically serving the city of Saratov and its surrounding districts. It is important to note that Saratov is a small urban-type settlement in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion of Odesa Oblast, not to be confused with the much larger Russian city of Saratov. The code follows the ITU-T E.164 recommendation for international telecommunication numbering.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The +380 4848 prefix is part of the Odesa regional numbering plan, which is overseen by the Ukrainian State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection (Derzhspetszviazok). The area covers the town of Saratov and nearby villages, including the historical Budjak region. The administrative center for this zone is the city of Odesa, but the 4848 code is specifically allocated to the northern part of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district, providing fixed-line services to residential and business subscribers.

Dialing Formats and Instructions

To call a subscriber in Saratov, the dialing format depends on the caller's location:

• Within Ukraine (domestic call): Dial the trunk prefix 0, followed by the area code 4848, and the subscriber's 5- to 7-digit local number. For example, if the local number is 12345, dial 0 4848 12345.
• From abroad (international call): Dial the international access code (e.g., 00 from most countries, or +), then the Ukrainian country code 380, the area code 4848, and the local number. For example, from the US, dial 011 380 4848 12345; from the UK, dial 00 380 4848 12345.

When dialing from a mobile phone, the same international format applies, and the leading '0' of the domestic trunk prefix is omitted.

Numbering and Overlay Considerations

Currently, there is no overlay code for the Saratov area; the 4848 code is the sole geographic code for this locality. Subscriber numbers in this area typically have a length of 5 to 7 digits, making the total number of digits for a domestic call (excluding trunk prefix) 9 to 11 digits. As with all Ukrainian geographic numbers, the tariff for calls to 4848 numbers is determined by the subscriber's chosen fixed-line operator, and calls from mobile networks may be subject to higher rates.

Caller Instructions

For local callers within the same area code, it is sometimes possible to dial only the local number without the area code, but this depends on the operator's configuration. For clarity, it is always recommended to use the full domestic format. For foreign callers, ensure that you have the correct country code and area code, and be mindful of time zone differences (Ukraine is UTC+2, or UTC+3 during daylight saving time).
