Area Code 4749 – Lysyanka, Cherkasy

Overview of Area Code +380 4749

Area code +380 4749 is a geographic destination code within the Ukrainian national numbering plan, assigned to the town of Lysyanka and its surrounding rural areas in the Cherkasy Oblast (province) of central Ukraine. This code is part of the Cherkasy regional telephony cluster, which is administered by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies under the authority of the National Commission for State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR).

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The +380 4749 prefix serves the Lysyanka Raion (district), with the administrative center being the urban-type settlement of Lysyanka. The coverage area includes nearby villages and agricultural communities that rely on the local PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) infrastructure. As a geographic code, it is tied to the physical location of the fixed-line subscriber, and calls to this code are routed to the Cherkasy regional telecom network.

Dialing Formats and Usage

• National dialing (within Ukraine): 0 4749 XXX XX (where X represents the subscriber number digits). The leading zero is the trunk prefix used for domestic calls.
• International dialing (from abroad): +380 4749 XXX XX. The plus sign represents the international access code (00 in most countries), followed by Ukraine's country code 380, the area code 4749, and the local subscriber number.

For example, a local number in Lysyanka might be dialed as 0 4749 5 12 34 from within Ukraine, or as +380 4749 5 12 34 from any other country.

Caller Instructions

For local callers: If you are physically within the Lysyanka area and calling another fixed-line subscriber in the same area code, you may be able to dial only the subscriber number without the area code, depending on your operator's local dialing rules. However, for clarity and to ensure proper routing, it is recommended to use the full national format (0 4749 ...) when calling from a mobile phone or from a different region.

For international callers: Always replace the trunk prefix '0' with the international access code (e.g., 00 from most European countries, 011 from North America) and then dial the country code 380, followed by the area code 4749 and the subscriber number. Do not include the initial '0' of the national trunk prefix.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest NCCIR updates, there are no overlay codes for the Lysyanka area. The 4749 prefix is exclusively used for fixed-line services in this geographic region. Subscriber numbers within this code typically consist of 5 to 7 digits, depending on the specific exchange and historical numbering capacity. The total length of a national significant number (NSN) for Ukraine is 9 digits, which includes the area code and subscriber number (excluding the trunk prefix '0').

For businesses or individuals in Lysyanka, maintaining a local geographic number is often advantageous for establishing a local presence and building trust with customers in the region. However, with the rise of VoIP and mobile services, many residents also use non-geographic numbers or mobile prefixes for flexibility. When calling a Lysyanka number, always verify the full number to avoid misdialing, as other area codes in the Cherkasy region (e.g., 4732 for Cherkasy city) are similar.
