Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Uman is a city of regional significance located in the eastern part of the Cherkasy Oblast. It serves as the administrative center of the Uman Raion. The area code 4744 covers the city itself as well as the surrounding rural communities and villages within the raion. Notable landmarks include the National Dendrological Park 'Sofiyivka', a popular tourist destination. The region is known for its agricultural production and historical significance.

Dialing Formats

When dialing a Uman number from within Ukraine, the trunk prefix 0 is used, followed by the area code and the subscriber number. The full national format is 0 4744 XX XX XX, where 'XX XX XX' represents the six-digit local subscriber number. For example, a local number might be written as 04744 12345 (note: the actual length of the subscriber number may vary, but the total number of digits after the trunk prefix is nine).

For international callers, the format is +380 4744 XX XX XX. The leading '0' of the national trunk prefix is omitted, and the country code 380 is used. For instance, to call a Uman number from abroad, you would dial +380 4744 12345.

Caller Instructions

Local callers within Ukraine: Dial the trunk prefix '0', then the area code 4744, followed by the subscriber number. For example, to call a number in Uman from Kyiv, you would dial 0 4744 12345.

International callers: Dial the international access code of your country (e.g., 00 from most European countries, 011 from the US/Canada), then Ukraine's country code 380, then the area code 4744 (without the leading zero), and finally the subscriber number. Example: +380 4744 12345.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T and Ukrainian regulatory updates, there is no overlay code for the 4744 area. The subscriber numbers within this code are typically six digits long, but the total number of digits for a complete national number (including the trunk prefix and area code) is ten. It is important to note that the Ukrainian numbering plan is closed, meaning that all digits must be dialed even for local calls within the same area code.

For businesses and residents in Uman, it is advisable to display numbers in the international format (+380 4744 ...) on websites and international correspondence to avoid confusion.
