Area Code 4738 – Drabiv, Cherkasy

Geographic Overview and Administrative Context

The Ukrainian national destination code +380 4738 corresponds to the geographic numbering area of Drabiv, an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of the Drabiv Raion (district) in the Cherkasy Oblast of central Ukraine. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies under the framework of ITU-T E.164. The Cherkasy region is known for its agricultural production and historical significance, with Drabiv serving as a local hub for surrounding rural communities.

Dialing Formats and Call Routing

For callers within Ukraine, the local dialing format is 04738 followed by the subscriber number, typically five to seven digits in length. For international callers, the full international format is +380 4738 followed by the subscriber number. When dialing from abroad, the leading zero of the national prefix is omitted, and the plus sign (+) or the international access code of the originating country (e.g., 011 from the US, 00 from most European countries) is used. For example, to call a fixed line in Drabiv from the United States, one would dial 011 380 4738 followed by the local number. From the United Kingdom, the sequence would be 00 380 4738.

It is important to note that the Ukrainian numbering plan does not currently implement overlay codes for this area; the 4738 code is exclusively assigned to the Drabiv geographic region. Subscriber numbers within this code are not portable to other geographic areas, as fixed-line numbers are tied to the physical location of the exchange.

Caller Instructions and Practical Considerations

Local callers within Drabiv may often use abbreviated dialing for calls within the same exchange, but for clarity and reliability, it is recommended to always use the full national format (0 4738) when dialing from a mobile phone or from outside the immediate local area. Mobile callers within Ukraine should always include the national trunk prefix '0' before the area code, even when dialing a number in the same city.

For international callers, it is essential to verify the current time difference (Ukraine is UTC+2, UTC+3 in summer) and to be aware that call charges may vary depending on the service provider. As with all geographic numbers, calls to +380 4738 are typically charged at standard international rates, and some VoIP or mobile providers may include such destinations in bundled minutes.

Businesses and residents in Drabiv rely on this code for fixed-line telephony, and it is widely used for official communications, local government services, and commercial enterprises. When documenting or publishing contact details, always use the international format to ensure global accessibility.
