Area Code 41 – Zhytomyr

Geographic Overview

The +380 41 country-and-area code combination is the international dialing prefix for the Zhytomyr geographic numbering area of Ukraine. This code serves the administrative region of Zhytomyr Oblast, with the primary switching center located in the city of Zhytomyr. The geographic coverage extends to the surrounding towns and rural districts within the oblast, including Berdychiv, Korosten, and Novohrad-Volynskyi, although some of these localities may have their own local exchange codes under the same area prefix.

Dialing Formats

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix '0' is used before the area code. The national format is 0 41 XX XX XXX, where '0' is the trunk prefix, '41' is the area code, and the remaining digits represent the local subscriber number. For example, a local number in Zhytomyr might be dialed as 0 41 2 34 56 78.

For international callers, the format is +380 41 XX XX XXX, replacing the leading '0' with the country code +380. For instance, an international caller would dial +380 41 2 34 56 78 to reach the same number.

Geographic vs. Non-Geographic Allocation

This prefix is a geographic allocation, meaning the number is tied to a physical location. However, with the advent of number portability and VoIP services, the actual location of the subscriber may not correspond to the geographic area. Nonetheless, the numbering plan retains the geographic significance for routing and administrative purposes.

Overlay and Numbering Plan Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T E.164 national numbering plan for Ukraine, there is no overlay code for the Zhytomyr area. The area code 41 is exclusively assigned to this region. Subscribers within the same area code can dial local numbers without the area code, using the 7-digit subscriber number format. For calls from other regions in Ukraine, the full national format with trunk prefix is required.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers (within Zhytomyr area): Dial the 7-digit subscriber number directly (e.g., 2 34 56 78).
• National callers (from other regions of Ukraine): Dial 0 41 followed by the subscriber number (e.g., 0 41 2 34 56 78).
• International callers: Dial the international access prefix (00 or +) followed by 380 41 and the subscriber number (e.g., +380 41 2 34 56 78).
