Area Code 3737 – Zastavna, Chernivtsi

Geographic Overview

The +380 3737 numbering block is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the fixed-line telephone network of Zastavna, a city in the Chernivtsi Oblast of western Ukraine. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies (UCRF) under the framework of ITU-T E.164. Zastavna serves as the administrative center of the Zastavnivskyi Raion, and the code covers the city itself as well as surrounding rural settlements within the district. The region is located in the historical area of Bukovina, near the Prut River, and is known for its agricultural economy and proximity to the Carpathian foothills.

Dialing Formats

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix '0' is used, followed by the NDC and the subscriber number. The complete national format for a Zastavna number is: 0 3737 XX XX (where X represents the 4-digit local subscriber number). For example, a typical local number might be 0 3737 2 45 67. When dialing from abroad, the international access prefix (typically '00' or '+') is used, followed by Ukraine's country code 380, the NDC without the leading '0', and the subscriber number: +380 3737 2 45 67. It is important to note that the leading '0' of the national prefix is never included when dialing from outside Ukraine.

Caller Instructions

Local callers within Zastavna may be able to dial the subscriber number directly without the trunk prefix or area code, depending on the local exchange configuration. However, for all other callers within Ukraine, the full national format (0 3737 XX XX) is required. International callers must replace the trunk prefix with the '+' sign or the international access code of their country, followed by 380 and the area code 3737. For example, a caller from the United States would dial 011 380 3737 2 45 67, while a caller from the UK would dial 00 380 3737 2 45 67.

Technical Considerations

As a geographic number, the 3737 code is tied to the physical location of the fixed-line network. However, with the advent of number portability and VoIP services, some numbers may be routed to alternative locations, but the geographic tariff structure typically remains. The subscriber number length is 4 digits, making the total number length 9 digits when including the NDC (excluding the trunk prefix). This is consistent with the standard 9-digit format for Ukrainian fixed-line numbers. Overlay codes have not been introduced for this area, so the 3737 code remains the sole geographic code for Zastavna. For emergency services, callers should dial 101 (fire), 102 (police), or 103 (ambulance) regardless of the area code.
