Area Code 3736 – Kitsman, Chernivtsi

Overview of Area Code 3736

Area code 3736 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the town of Kitsman and its surrounding administrative district within the Chernivtsi Oblast of Ukraine. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies (UCRF) and complies with ITU-T E.164 recommendations. The region is situated in the historical region of Bukovina, near the Prut River, and is known for its agricultural and light industrial activities.

Geographic Coverage and Jurisdiction

The 3736 code covers the Kitsman Raion (district), which includes the town of Kitsman itself, as well as numerous villages such as Davydivka, Luzhany, and Shypyntsi. Administratively, the district falls under the Chernivtsi Oblast, and the code is used for fixed-line PSTN services provided by local operators, primarily Ukrtelecom, as well as alternative fixed-line operators that have been allocated numbers within this range.

Dialing Formats and Instructions

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix 0 is used before the area code. Therefore, to call a fixed-line number in Kitsman from another city in Ukraine, you would dial: 0 3736 X XX XX. For example, if the local subscriber number is 4-56-78, the complete national dialing sequence would be 0 3736 4 56 78.

For international callers, the Ukrainian country code +380 replaces the trunk prefix. Thus, the same number would be dialed as +380 3736 4 56 78. It is important to note that the leading 0 is omitted when dialing from abroad.

Local calls within the Kitsman area may be possible using shorter dialing formats, but this depends on the specific operator's network configuration. However, for clarity and consistency, it is recommended to always use the full national or international format.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest available data, no overlay code has been introduced for the 3736 area. The subscriber numbers within this code typically consist of five to six digits, depending on the operator's allocation. The total length of a national significant number (NSN) for a fixed-line subscriber in Ukraine is nine digits, including the area code but excluding the trunk prefix. Therefore, a typical number in Kitsman will have the structure 3736 XX XXX or 3736 XXX XXX.

When dialing from a mobile phone, the same rules apply as for any fixed-line call. Mobile subscribers within Ukraine should dial the national format with the trunk prefix. It is also worth noting that number portability exists in Ukraine, but it is primarily implemented for mobile numbers; fixed-line number portability is limited. Therefore, if you are calling a number that has been ported, the area code may not reflect the actual physical location of the subscriber, but the call will still be routed correctly.

Practical Tips for Callers

• When calling from abroad, always use the international format: +380 3736 XXX XXX.
• When calling from a Ukrainian mobile or fixed line, use 0 3736 XXX XXX.
• Be aware of time zone differences: Ukraine operates on Eastern European Time (EET, UTC+2) and observes daylight saving time (EEST, UTC+3).
• For emergency services, always dial the national emergency numbers (101, 102, 103, 104) regardless of the area code.
