Area Code 3546 – Kremenets/Pochayiv, Ternopil

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The Ukrainian national destination code 3546 is a geographic area code assigned to the Kremenets and Pochayiv districts within the Ternopil Oblast of western Ukraine. This code serves the administrative territories of Kremenets Raion, including the city of Kremenets and the historic town of Pochayiv, renowned for the Pochayiv Lavra monastery. The region is part of the broader Ternopil administrative region, and the code is used for fixed-line PSTN services within this designated calling area.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For domestic callers within Ukraine, the local dialing format requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number: 0 3546 XX-XX-XX. For example, a local call to a subscriber in Kremenets would be dialed as 0 3546 5-12-34. When dialing from abroad, callers must use the international access prefix (typically 00 or +), followed by the Ukrainian country code 380, then the area code without the leading trunk prefix, and the subscriber number: +380 3546 5-12-34. It is crucial to omit the initial 0 of the area code when dialing internationally.

Numbering Plan Structure and Overlay Considerations

Under the Ukrainian numbering plan, geographic area codes are assigned on a regional basis. The subscriber numbers within the 3546 code typically consist of 5 to 7 digits, depending on the local exchange capacity. As of the latest ITU-T E.164 guidelines, no overlay codes have been implemented for this area, meaning that the 3546 code remains the sole geographic code for Kremenets and Pochayiv. However, the Ukrainian regulator (NCCIR) periodically reviews numbering resources, and future changes cannot be entirely ruled out.

Service Characteristics and Usage

Subscriber lines under the 3546 code are primarily used for fixed-line voice services, including PSTN and VoIP-based fixed telephony. The region is served by a mix of traditional copper lines and modern fiber-optic infrastructure. Calls to this code are charged according to the national tariff plan of the caller's operator, with rates typically lower than mobile tariffs. Emergency services (112) and other special numbers remain accessible regardless of the geographic code.

Practical Guidance for Callers

For local callers within Kremenets or Pochayiv, it is sometimes possible to dial only the subscriber number (without the area code) if the call is within the same local exchange, but this practice is becoming less common with the expansion of multi-exchange numbering. To avoid misdialing, it is recommended to always use the full national format 0 3546 followed by the subscriber number. For international callers, ensure you have the correct country code and omit the trunk prefix. Always verify the subscriber number length, as it may vary.
