Geographic Overview

The +380 3542 dialing prefix is the geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the Pidhaytsi local exchange area within the Ternopil Oblast of western Ukraine. This numbering area covers the town of Pidhaytsi and the surrounding administrative district, which is situated approximately 80 kilometers southwest of the regional capital, Ternopil. The code is used for fixed-line PSTN services and adheres to the national numbering plan defined by the Ukrainian State Enterprise for Radio Frequency and Telecommunication Services (UkrChastotNagliad) under the framework of ITU-T E.164.

Dialing Formats

For callers within Ukraine, the national subscriber number (NSN) for Pidhaytsi is dialed as a single string: 03542 XXX XX. The leading "0" is the trunk prefix used for domestic long-distance calls. The complete NSN length is 9 digits, including the trunk prefix. For international callers, the trunk prefix is omitted, and the country code is used: +380 3542 XXX XX. The total international number length is 12 digits, excluding the plus sign.

Local Numbering and Capacity

Subscriber numbers within the 3542 area code are typically 5 or 6 digits long, depending on the exchange capacity and historical allocation. The prefix is classified as a geographic code, meaning that the tariff and routing are based on the physical location of the line. As part of the Ternopil region, the code is managed by the regional incumbent operator, which is currently a subsidiary of Ukrtelecom, though alternative fixed-line operators may offer services in the area under local loop unbundling regulations.

Caller Instructions

For local callers within the Pidhaytsi area, short-dialing may be available for calls to the same exchange, but it is recommended to always use the full national format 03542 XXX XX to avoid misrouting. For callers from other regions of Ukraine, dial 0 3542 XXX XX. For callers from abroad, dial +380 3542 XXX XX (or the international access code of the originating country, followed by 380 3542 XXX XX).

Overlay and Future Considerations

As of the latest numbering plan updates, there is no overlay code for the Pidhaytsi area; the 3542 code remains the sole geographic code for this locality. However, with the ongoing migration of fixed-line services to VoIP and the eventual transition to all-IP networks, the distinction between geographic and non-geographic codes may blur. Nonetheless, for the foreseeable future, the +380 3542 prefix will continue to be associated with the Pidhaytsi region for regulatory and emergency services purposes.
