Area Code 329 – Lviv

The +380 329 area code is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the Lviv region of Ukraine, specifically serving the western part of the oblast. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies (UCRF) under the framework of ITU-T E.164. The geographic area covered by the 329 code includes the city of Lviv and its surrounding districts, such as Pustomyty, Horodok, and Zhovkva, providing PSTN and VoIP fixed-line services to residential and business subscribers.

Dialing Formats and Procedures

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix '0' is used before the area code, followed by the subscriber number. The complete national format is 0 329 XXX XX XX, where the subscriber number typically consists of seven digits. For example, a local Lviv number might be dialed as 0 329 123 45 67. When calling from abroad, the international access prefix (e.g., 00 or +) is used, followed by Ukraine's country code 380, the area code without the leading zero, and the subscriber number: +380 329 123 45 67.

Within the Lviv region, if you are dialing another number in the same area code, you may still need to include the trunk prefix and area code, depending on the local dialing plan. In many Ukrainian fixed-line networks, local calls within the same NDC can be made using only the subscriber number, but this varies by operator. To avoid confusion, it is recommended to always use the full national format, especially when calling from mobile networks.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

The 329 area code is not an overlay; it is the primary geographic code for the Lviv region. However, due to the increasing demand for telecommunication services, the neighboring code 322 was introduced as an overlay for the city of Lviv, allowing for additional subscriber numbers without changing the existing 329 numbers. This means that subscribers in the Lviv metropolitan area may have numbers with either 322 or 329, and ten-digit dialing (including the trunk prefix) is mandatory for all calls to ensure proper routing.

For international callers, it is essential to note that Ukrainian fixed-line numbers are not portable across geographic areas; a number with the 329 code is tied to the Lviv region. If you are using VoIP services, the same dialing rules apply, but ensure that your service provider supports international dialing to Ukraine and that you have correctly formatted the number to avoid call failures.

In summary, the +380 329 area code serves the Lviv region with a well-defined geographic footprint. Whether you are a local resident, a business establishing a presence in Western Ukraine, or an international caller, understanding the correct dialing procedures is crucial for seamless connectivity.
