Overview of Area Code +380 3257

Area code +380 3257 is a geographic destination code within the Ukrainian national numbering plan, assigned to the city of Sokal and the surrounding Sokal Raion in the Lviv Oblast (Lviv region) of western Ukraine. The code follows the ITU-T E.164 international dialing standard and is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services. The region is served by a local incumbent operator and several alternative fixed-line providers, all of which route calls through this destination code.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Sokal is an ancient city located in the northern part of Lviv Oblast, near the border with Poland and the Volyn Oblast. The area code 3257 covers not only the city of Sokal but also the adjacent villages and towns within the former Sokal Raion. This administrative district is known for its agricultural production and historical landmarks, including the Sokal Castle and the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The region is part of the broader Lviv metropolitan influence, but it maintains its own local telecommunications infrastructure.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Ukraine, the local dialing format is 0 3257 XX-XX-XX (where X represents a digit). The leading '0' is the trunk prefix used for domestic calls. For example, to call a Sokal landline number 44-55-66 from Kyiv, you would dial 0 3257 44-55-66.

For international callers, the country code for Ukraine is +380, so you would dial +380 3257 XX-XX-XX. For instance, from the United States, you would dial 011 380 3257 44-55-66; from the United Kingdom, 00 380 3257 44-55-66. The area code is always used in full, and there is no local abbreviated dialing for international calls.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T and Ukrainian NAP (National Administration of the Numbering Plan) updates, there is no overlay code for Sokal. The area code 3257 is exclusively assigned to this geographic region. Subscribers in Sokal have 7-digit local numbers, and the total number length for international dialing is 12 digits (including the country code and area code).

Number portability is available within Ukraine for fixed-line services, allowing subscribers to retain their numbers when switching between operators, provided they remain within the same geographic area. However, porting to a different geographic region is not permitted, as the code is tied to the location.

Practical Usage and Cost

Calls to +380 3257 are billed as standard fixed-line rates. For domestic callers, the cost depends on their operator and tariff plan. International callers should consult their service provider for applicable rates. It is important to note that while VoIP services can be used to reach these numbers, the destination is still a traditional PSTN line, so emergency services and other location-based features are available.
