Area Code 3244 – Drogobych, Lviv

Geographic Overview

The +380 3244 prefix is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the city of Drogobych (Ukrainian: Дрогобич) and its surrounding administrative district within the Lviv Oblast of western Ukraine. Drogobych is a significant cultural and industrial center located approximately 70 kilometers southwest of Lviv, the regional capital. The numbering area encompasses the city itself, adjacent towns, and rural communities that fall under the Drogobych Raion. As a geographic code, the prefix is tied to a specific physical location and is used for fixed-line PSTN services, though it may also be used by VoIP providers offering local numbers.

Dialing Formats

For callers within Ukraine, the national dialing format requires the trunk prefix '0' followed by the area code and the subscriber number. The complete national number for a Drogobych landline is: 0 3244 XXX XXX. The subscriber number is typically six digits, making the total national number length ten digits (including the leading zero).

For international callers, the Ukrainian country code (+380) replaces the trunk prefix. The international dialing format is: +380 3244 XXX XXX. When dialing from abroad, the leading zero is omitted, and the plus sign represents the international access code (e.g., 00 from most European countries).

Local vs. International Calls

Local calls within the Drogobych area code (3244) may be dialed using only the six-digit subscriber number when calling from another number within the same geographic area, depending on the operator's dialing plan. However, for clarity and to avoid misdialing, it is recommended to use the full national format. Calls from other regions of Ukraine require the trunk prefix and area code. International callers must always use the full international format with the country code.

Regulatory and Technical Notes

The Ukrainian numbering plan follows ITU-T E.164 recommendations. The NDC 3244 is part of the geographic numbering scheme administered by the Ukrainian State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection. Number portability is available for fixed-line services, meaning that a subscriber may retain their number when changing providers, but the geographic significance remains. Overlay codes are not currently in use for this area; the 3244 code is the sole geographic code for Drogobych.

For businesses, having a local Drogobych number can enhance trust and accessibility for customers in the region. When dialing from abroad, ensure you have the correct country code and omit any leading zeros. For example, a typical number might be +380 3244 123456.
