Area Code 3135 – Great Berezny, Zakarpattia

Geographic Overview

The area code +380 3135 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the town of Velykyi Bereznyi (also transliterated as Velikiy Berezny or Great Berezny) and its surrounding district in the Zakarpattia Oblast of western Ukraine. This region is part of the historical Carpathian Ruthenia area, nestled near the border with Slovakia and Poland. The code serves the administrative district of Velykyi Bereznyi, including the urban-type settlement of Velykyi Bereznyi itself and numerous adjacent villages. The numbering area falls under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian National Commission for State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR).

Dialing Formats and Procedures

For callers within Ukraine, the national trunk prefix 0 is used before the area code, followed by the subscriber number. The complete national format is 0 3135 XX-XX, where 'XX-XX' represents the local subscriber number (typically 4 to 5 digits). For example, a local call to a subscriber number 12345 would be dialed as 03135 12345 from other parts of Ukraine.

For international callers, the Ukrainian country code +380 is used, followed by the area code without the leading '0'. Thus, the international format becomes +380 3135 XX-XX. For instance, an international caller would dial +3803135 12345 to reach the same subscriber. When dialing from abroad, it is essential to replace the trunk prefix '0' with the international access code of the originating country (e.g., '00' from most European countries, '011' from North America) before the country code.

Geographic and Administrative Context

Velykyi Bereznyi is the administrative center of the Velykyi Bereznyi Raion (district) in Zakarpattia Oblast. The region is known for its mountainous terrain, part of the Ukrainian Carpathians, and is a popular area for eco-tourism and hiking. The local economy is primarily based on forestry, agriculture, and small-scale tourism. The area code 3135 is one of several geographic codes in Zakarpattia, with other nearby codes including Uzhhorod (312), Mukachevo (3131), and Khust (3142).

Numbering and Regulatory Notes

Subscriber numbers within the 3135 area are typically 5 digits long, but the total length of a national significant number (NSN) in Ukraine is 9 digits, which includes the area code (excluding the trunk prefix). Therefore, the number structure is: area code '3135' (4 digits) + subscriber number (5 digits) = 9 digits. This is consistent with the Ukrainian national numbering plan.

As a geographic code, the tariff for calls to +380 3135 is typically lower than calls to mobile or special service numbers, and it is often included in fixed-line calling plans. However, with the increasing penetration of VoIP and mobile telephony, many subscribers in the area may also be reachable via alternative numbers, but the geographic code remains the primary identifier for fixed-line services in the region.

For callers within Ukraine, it is important to note that the trunk prefix '0' is required for all national calls, including calls to the same area code from a different fixed-line operator. However, local calls within the same exchange may be dialed without the area code, depending on the operator's dialing plan. For international callers, always use the full international format to ensure proper routing.
