Area Code 456 – Gumushane

Overview of Area Code 456 (Gümüşhane, Türkiye)

Area code 456 is the National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the province of Gümüşhane in the Eastern Black Sea region of Türkiye. It is a geographic code within the Turkish numbering plan, administered under the country calling code +90. The code covers the administrative boundaries of Gümüşhane Province, including its central district and the surrounding towns and villages. Key localities served by this code include the provincial capital Gümüşhane, as well as the districts of Kelkit, Şiran, Kürtün, and Torul.

Dialing Formats and Call Routing

For callers within Türkiye, the national dialing format requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. The complete national number for a fixed-line subscriber in Gümüşhane is structured as 0 (456) XXX XX XX, where the subscriber number is seven digits long. For international callers, the format is +90 456 XXX XX XX, with the leading zero of the national trunk prefix omitted.

Example: A local call to a business in Gümüşhane would be dialed as 0 456 123 45 67 from elsewhere in Türkiye. From abroad, the same number would be dialed as +90 456 123 45 67.

Geographic and Administrative Coverage

Gümüşhane is a landlocked province bordered by Trabzon to the north, Bayburt to the east, Erzincan to the south, and Giresun to the west. The area code 456 is used exclusively for fixed-line services (PSTN and VoIP) within this province. As a geographic code, it is tied to the physical location of the subscriber's line. However, with the advent of number portability in Türkiye, a fixed-line number with the 456 prefix may be re-assigned to a different operator, but it remains associated with the Gümüşhane geographic area for routing and tariff purposes.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the current numbering plan, there is no overlay code for Gümüşhane; the 456 code is the sole area code for the province. Subscriber numbers within this code are seven digits long, and the total length of a national significant number (NSN) is 10 digits (excluding the trunk prefix). This structure is consistent with the ITU-T E.164 recommendation for Türkiye.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers within Gümüşhane: For calls to another fixed-line subscriber in the same area code, dial only the 7-digit subscriber number (e.g., 123 45 67).
• National callers from other provinces: Dial 0 456 XXX XX XX.
• International callers: Dial your country's international access code (e.g., 00 or +), then 90 456 XXX XX XX.

Mobile numbers in Türkiye are non-geographic and begin with 5xx codes; they are not affected by area code 456. For any emergency or special services, always use the national emergency numbers (e.g., 112 for medical, 155 for police) regardless of the area code.
