Area Code 374 – Bolu

Overview of Area Code 374 (Bolu, Türkiye)

Area code 374 is the National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the province of Bolu in northwestern Türkiye, under the country calling code +90. This geographic code follows the ITU-T E.164 numbering plan and is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services within the province. Bolu is strategically located on the highway connecting Istanbul to Ankara, and its administrative center is the city of Bolu, with other significant towns including Gerede, Mudurnu, Göynük, and Mengen.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 374 area code covers the entire Bolu Province, which is divided into several districts. The main city, Bolu, serves as the provincial capital and is the primary hub for business and government services. The code is allocated exclusively to fixed-line subscribers within this province, meaning that numbers beginning with +90 374 are geographically tied to the region. This is important for call routing, emergency services, and regulatory compliance.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Türkiye, the national dialing format for a Bolu fixed-line number is 0 374 XXX XX XX, where the leading 0 is the trunk prefix used to access the national network. For international callers, the format is +90 374 XXX XX XX (or 00 90 374 XXX XX XX from many countries). The subscriber number is 7 digits long, making the total length of a national significant number (NSN) 10 digits (excluding the trunk prefix).

• Local call (within Bolu): If you are dialing from another fixed line within the same area code, you may only need to dial the 7-digit subscriber number, depending on your operator's settings. However, it is always safe to use the full national format.
• National call (from other provinces): Dial 0 374 followed by the 7-digit subscriber number.
• International call (from abroad): Dial your country's exit code (e.g., 00, 011), then 90, then 374, then the 7-digit subscriber number. Example: +90 374 212 34 56.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T and national regulatory updates, there is no overlay code for Bolu; the 374 code remains exclusive to the province. However, with the growth of VoIP and mobile services, some numbers may appear with different formats, but any number starting with +90 374 is a fixed-line geographic number. Mobile numbers in Türkiye always begin with 5xx (e.g., 530, 541) and are non-geographic, so they are not confused with area codes.

Practical Tips for Callers

When calling a Bolu number from abroad, be mindful of time differences (Türkiye is UTC+3). Also, ensure you have the correct 7-digit subscriber number, as omitting a digit will result in a failed call. For businesses, having a Bolu geographic number can enhance local trust and is often used for customer service lines. For travelers, knowing the local dialing format can help when contacting hotels, restaurants, or local services.
