Area Code 344 – K. Maras

Overview of Area Code +90 344

Area code 344 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the province of Kahramanmaraş (commonly abbreviated as K. Maraş) in southern Türkiye. It is part of the Turkish national numbering plan administered by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) under ITU-T E.164 guidelines. The code serves both fixed-line PSTN and VoIP services within the province, and its geographic scope is strictly limited to the administrative borders of Kahramanmaraş.

Geographic Coverage and Major Localities

The 344 area code covers the entire province, including its central district and surrounding towns. Key localities served include:

• Kahramanmaraş city center (Onyedi Şubat, Dulkadiroğlu, and Onikişubat districts)
• Afşin
• Andırın
• Çağlayancerit
• Ekinözü
• Elbistan
• Göksun
• Nurhak
• Pazarcık
• Türkoğlu

These areas are part of the Mediterranean and Southeastern Anatolia transition zone, and the code is essential for routing calls to businesses, government offices, and residences in this region.

Dialing Formats

Understanding the correct dialing procedure is crucial for both domestic and international callers.

• Domestic calls (within Türkiye): Dial 0 344 XXX XX XX. The leading 0 is the trunk prefix used to access the national network. The subscriber number is 7 digits long, making the total number length (excluding trunk prefix) 10 digits.
• International calls (from abroad): Dial +90 344 XXX XX XX or 00 90 344 XXX XX XX (depending on the international access code of the originating country). The +90 is Türkiye's country calling code, and the leading 0 of the domestic format is omitted.

For example, a local number in Kahramanmaraş might be 0 344 555 12 34. From the United States, you would dial 011 90 344 555 12 34; from the United Kingdom, 00 90 344 555 12 34.

Overlays and Numbering Plan Considerations

Currently, there is no overlay code for Kahramanmaraş; the 344 code is the sole geographic code for the province. However, as in all Turkish provinces, mobile numbers are separate and begin with 5xx codes (e.g., 530, 541, 542, 551) and are not tied to geographic location. When dialing a mobile number, you must always use the 0 5xx XXX XX XX format domestically and +90 5xx XXX XX XX internationally.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers (within Kahramanmaraş): Even for local calls, you must dial the full 10-digit number including the area code: 0 344 XXX XX XX. There is no abbreviated local dialing.
• Domestic callers from other provinces: Use the same format: 0 344 XXX XX XX.
• International callers: Replace the trunk prefix 0 with the country code +90 and drop the leading 0 of the area code. So, +90 344 XXX XX XX.

Always verify the subscriber number length, as Turkish fixed-line numbers are consistently 7 digits after the area code. This ensures accurate call completion.
