📍 Geographic Location of Tolyatti
Overview of Area Code +7 848
Area code +7 848 is a geographic destination code within the Russian Federation's national numbering plan, assigned to the city of Tolyatti (also spelled Togliatti) and its immediate surroundings in the Samara Oblast. Tolyatti is a major industrial center located on the Volga River, approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Samara, and is known for being the headquarters of AvtoVAZ, Russia's largest automobile manufacturer. The code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services within this urban agglomeration.
Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction
The +7 848 area code serves the city of Tolyatti and its satellite settlements, including the administrative districts of Komsomolsk, Tsentralny, and Avtozavodsky. It also covers nearby localities such as Povolzhsky and certain rural areas within the Stavropolsky District of Samara Oblast. The code is administered by the regional telecom authority under the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, and is allocated to local fixed-line operators, including Rostelecom and alternative providers.
Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions
For callers within Russia, the national trunk prefix 8 is used, followed by the area code and the subscriber number. For example, to call a Tolyatti landline number 12-34-56, you would dial 8 848 12-34-56 from any other region in Russia. For international callers, the Russian country code +7 is dialed, followed by the area code (without the leading 0) and the subscriber number. Thus, the same number would be dialed as +7 848 12-34-56 from abroad. Note that when dialing from a mobile phone within Russia, the trunk prefix 8 can be replaced by +7, so the format +7 848 12-34-56 is also valid.
Local Dialing and Number Length
Within the Tolyatti area, local calls can be made by dialing only the six-digit subscriber number (e.g., 12-34-56) without the area code. The full national number comprises 10 digits: the area code (848) plus a six-digit subscriber number. This is standard for Russian geographic numbering, which uses an open dialing plan for local calls and a closed plan for long-distance and international calls.
Overlay and Numbering Considerations
As of the latest ITU-T E.164 guidelines, there is no overlay code for Tolyatti; the 848 code remains exclusive to this geographic area. However, number portability is not available for fixed-line services in Russia, so a subscriber number retains its geographic association even if the user relocates within the same code area. For businesses, having a +7 848 number establishes a local presence in Tolyatti, which can be beneficial for customer trust and local marketing.
