Area Code 7187 – Ekibastuz

Overview of Area Code +7 7187

Area code +7 7187 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) within the Russian Federation's national numbering plan, which follows the ITU-T E.164 standard. This code is assigned to the city of Ekibastuz and its surrounding administrative district, located in the Pavlodar Region of northeastern Kazakhstan. Although the country code +7 is shared by Russia and Kazakhstan, the assignment of 7187 falls under the Kazakhstan numbering plan, specifically for the Ekibastuz zone. The code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services within this region, providing local telephony connectivity for residential, business, and government subscribers.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Ekibastuz is a major industrial city known for its coal mining and power generation, situated approximately 130 kilometers southwest of Pavlodar. The area code 7187 covers the city itself and the Ekibastuz District, including nearby settlements and rural areas that are part of the city's administrative jurisdiction. As a geographic code, 7187 is tied to a specific physical location, and calls to this code are routed based on the subscriber's line location.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Kazakhstan (using the +7 country code), dialing a local Ekibastuz number requires the trunk prefix '8' followed by the area code and the subscriber number. For example, to call a local number 1234567 from within Kazakhstan, you would dial: 8 7187 1234567. However, for international callers, the format is: +7 7187 1234567 (or 007 7187 1234567 from some countries). It is important to note that the subscriber number length within this code is typically 7 digits, making the total national significant number (NSN) 10 digits (including the leading 7).

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

At present, there is no overlay code for the Ekibastuz area; 7187 remains the sole geographic code for the region. However, as with many regions, number portability may allow subscribers to retain their numbers when changing operators, but the geographic significance of the code remains. For callers, it is essential to use the correct international prefix when dialing from abroad, and to omit the trunk prefix '8' when dialing from outside Kazakhstan.

Practical Usage and Tips

For businesses operating in Ekibastuz, having a local 7187 number establishes a local presence and can reduce long-distance charges for customers within the region. For international partners, using the +7 7187 format ensures proper routing. Always verify the current dialing procedures with your telecom provider, as changes in numbering plans can occur.
