Area Code 7162 – Kokshetau/Krasni Yar

Geographic Overview

The area code 7162 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) within the Russian Federation's national numbering plan, which operates under the international country calling code +7. This code serves the city of Kokshetau and the surrounding settlement of Krasni Yar, located in the Akmola Region of northern Kazakhstan. It is important to note that while Russia and Kazakhstan share the +7 country code, each country maintains its own distinct numbering plan. The 7162 code is allocated within Kazakhstan's plan, specifically for fixed-line telephone services in the Kokshetau area.

Coverage and Administration

Kokshetau is the administrative center of the Akmola Region and a significant economic and cultural hub. The 7162 area code covers the city itself and nearby localities, including Krasni Yar. The numbering resource is administered by the Committee of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Subscribers within this area are assigned seven-digit local numbers, resulting in a complete international format of +7 7162 XXX-XX-XX.

Dialing Procedures

• Local Calls (within Kokshetau): When dialing from a fixed-line phone within the same area code, only the seven-digit subscriber number is required. For example, to reach a local number, you would dial XXX-XX-XX.
• National Calls (from other regions in Kazakhstan): Callers from other parts of Kazakhstan must dial the trunk prefix 8, followed by the area code and subscriber number: 8 7162 XXX-XX-XX.
• International Calls (from outside Kazakhstan): Callers from abroad should dial their international exit code, then +7 7162, followed by the seven-digit local number. For instance, from the United States, you would dial 011 7 7162 XXX-XX-XX.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the current numbering plan, there is no overlay code for the 7162 area. The area code is not subject to permissive dialing changes; however, users should be aware that Kazakhstan has implemented a unified numbering plan with Russia, but each country's prefixes are distinct. The 7162 code is exclusively geographic and does not support non-geographic or mobile services. Mobile numbers in Kazakhstan begin with different prefixes (e.g., 7xx) and are not tied to geographic regions.

Practical Guidance for Callers

For local callers within Kokshetau, simply dial the seven-digit number. For national callers outside the area, remember to use the trunk prefix 8 before the area code. International callers must replace the trunk prefix with the +7 country code and drop the leading 8. Always verify the current dialing rules with your telecom provider, as routing may vary for VoIP and mobile networks. When storing contacts, use the international format +7 7162 XXX-XX-XX to ensure connectivity from any location worldwide.
