Area Code 347 – Republic of Bashkortostan

Overview

The +7 347 country and area code combination is assigned to the Republic of Bashkortostan, a federal subject of the Russian Federation located in the Volga Federal District. This geographic code serves the capital city of Ufa and its surrounding administrative districts, including the Ufa, Blagoveshchensk, and Chishminsky districts. As a National Destination Code (NDC) within the Russian numbering plan, 347 is used for fixed-line PSTN and VoIP services. The region is one of Russia's most industrially developed areas, with significant oil refining, petrochemical, and engineering sectors, making reliable telecommunications infrastructure critical for business operations.

Dialing Formats

For international callers, the number must be dialed in full E.164 format: +7 347 XXX-XX-XX, where +7 is the country code for Russia and Kazakhstan, 347 is the area code, and the subscriber number is seven digits long. Local callers within Bashkortostan can dial the seven-digit subscriber number directly without the area code. However, callers from other Russian regions must dial 8 347 XXX-XX-XX (using the trunk prefix 8) or +7 347 XXX-XX-XX depending on their carrier's requirements. Mobile and VoIP users should always use the international format to ensure proper routing.

Geographic Coverage and Numbering

The 347 area code covers a territory of approximately 143,600 square kilometers, with Ufa being the largest city and administrative center. Other notable localities served include Sterlitamak, Salavat, Neftekamsk, and Oktyabrsky, though these cities may have their own area codes (e.g., 3471 for Sterlitamak). The code is part of the Russian numbering plan administered by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media. Subscriber numbers within the 347 code are seven digits long, and the total number length for international dialing is 11 digits (excluding the +).

Caller Instructions

• Local callers (within the same area code): Dial the 7-digit subscriber number.
• Long-distance callers within Russia: Dial 8, wait for the dial tone, then 347 and the subscriber number (or use +7 347...).
• International callers: Dial your country's exit code (e.g., 011 from the US, 00 from most European countries), then 7 347 and the subscriber number.

When dialing from a mobile phone in Russia, it is recommended to use +7 347... to avoid issues with trunk prefix routing. For example, to call a business in Ufa from abroad, you would dial +7 347 123-45-67.

Overlay and Numbering Changes

As of 2025, there is no overlay code in the 347 area; the region continues to use the single geographic code. However, due to increasing demand for numbers, especially in urban areas, authorities may introduce additional codes in the future. It is always advisable to verify the correct dialing format with your telecom provider when making calls to Bashkortostan.
