Area Code 83 – Villa Florida

Overview of Area Code 83 (Villa Florida, Paraguay)

Area code 83 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the town of Villa Florida and its surrounding rural districts in the Misiones Department of Paraguay. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL), following ITU-T E.164 recommendations. Villa Florida, located on the banks of the Tebicuary River, is a key agricultural and tourism hub in the southern region of the country.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 83 NDC covers the urban area of Villa Florida and the adjacent compañías (rural settlements) that fall under the jurisdiction of the Villa Florida municipality. The code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services and is also utilized by some fixed-wireless and VoIP providers that offer local numbers. The region is part of the Misiones Department, with the departmental capital, San Juan Bautista, using a different area code (81).

Dialing Formats and Procedures

For callers within Paraguay, the national dialing format requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. For example, to call a fixed line in Villa Florida from Asunción, you would dial: 0 83 XXX XXXX (where X represents the 6- or 7-digit local number). For international callers, the format is +595 83 XXX XXXX (or 00 595 83 from many countries). When dialing locally within Villa Florida, the area code may be omitted if the call is within the same exchange, but it is always required for calls from other regions.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest CONATEL updates, there is no overlay code for the 83 area; the code is exclusively assigned to Villa Florida. However, due to the growth of mobile and VoIP services, some subscribers may have numbers that appear with the 83 code but are actually non-geographic or mobile services. Always verify the number type before dialing, as mobile numbers in Paraguay use different prefixes (e.g., 961-999 for Tigo, 971-999 for Personal, etc.).

Caller Instructions

Local callers within Paraguay should use the national trunk prefix (0) when dialing from a different area code. Foreign callers must use the country code +595 and drop the leading 0. For example, a caller from the United States would dial 011 595 83 XXX XXXX. For calls from a mobile phone in Paraguay, the same national format applies. It is advisable to confirm the subscriber number length, as it may vary between 6 and 7 digits depending on the service provider and the date of number allocation.

Villa Florida is a popular destination for eco-tourism and fishing, so many businesses, hotels, and government offices rely on the 83 code for their fixed-line communications. If you are contacting a business in Villa Florida, ensure you have the correct number format to avoid misdialing.
