Area Code 740 – General Delgado

Overview of Area Code 740 (General Delgado, Paraguay)

Area code 740 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the General Delgado area, located in the Itapúa Department of southeastern Paraguay. This region is part of the country's PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and is used for fixed-line services. The code follows the ITU-T E.164 international numbering standard, ensuring seamless global connectivity.

Geographic Coverage and Administration

General Delgado is a district within the Itapúa Department, an area known for its agricultural activity and proximity to the Paraná River. The 740 prefix serves the town of General Delgado and its surrounding rural communities. Administratively, the code falls under the jurisdiction of the Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL), Paraguay's telecommunications regulatory body, which oversees the allocation and management of numbering resources.

Dialing Formats

For callers within Paraguay, the national dialing format requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. For example, to call a fixed line in General Delgado from Asunción, you would dial:

• 0 740 XXX XXX (where XXX XXX is the 6-digit local subscriber number)

For international callers, the format is:

• +595 740 XXX XXX (replace the leading 0 with the country code +595)

For example, a caller from the United States would dial +595 740 XXX XXX.

Local and International Call Instructions

When dialing locally within General Delgado, if the network supports 7-digit dialing (area code + subscriber number), you may need to include the area code even for local calls, depending on the specific carrier's requirements. However, it is always safe to use the full national format (0 740 XXX XXX) for any call within Paraguay. International callers should always use the plus sign (+) followed by the country code, area code, and subscriber number, omitting the trunk prefix 0.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest updates, there are no overlay codes for the 740 area. The subscriber number length is typically 6 digits, but this may vary depending on the specific telephone exchange. It is important to note that while Paraguay has implemented mobile number portability, fixed-line numbers are generally not portable across different geographic areas. Therefore, a number with the 740 prefix will always be associated with the General Delgado region.

For businesses and residents in General Delgado, the 740 code is essential for establishing a local presence and ensuring reliable communication with customers and partners both domestically and internationally.
