Area Code 4545 – Khushab

Geographic Overview

The +92 4545 country and area code combination corresponds to the Khushab landline telephone exchange within the Punjab province of Pakistan. Khushab is a district headquarters situated on the Jhelum River, approximately 200 kilometers northwest of Lahore. The 4545 prefix is allocated to fixed-line PSTN services operated by the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and licensed local loop operators serving the urban and peri-urban areas of Khushab city and its immediate surroundings.

Dialing Format and Number Structure

When calling a Khushab landline from within Pakistan, subscribers must dial the national trunk prefix 0, followed by the area code 4545 and the seven-digit local subscriber number. The complete national significant number (NSN) length is ten digits, excluding the trunk prefix. For example, a local number such as 1234567 would be dialed as 045451234567 from any other part of the country.

For international callers, the Pakistani country code +92 replaces the trunk prefix. The same Khushab number is dialed as +92 4545 1234567 from abroad. Note that the leading zero of the area code is omitted when using the international format. This structure complies with ITU-T E.164 recommendations, ensuring unambiguous routing through the global PSTN.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 4545 area code serves the Khushab Tehsil, including the municipal committee area of Khushab city and adjacent union councils. It does not cover other tehsils of Khushab District, such as Noorpur Thal or Quaidabad, which have their own distinct area codes. The exchange is physically located in Khushab and routes calls through the Punjab region's terrestrial fiber and microwave backbone.

Caller Instructions and Overlay Considerations

Local callers within the Khushab exchange area may sometimes use abbreviated dialing for calls to nearby numbers, but for reliability, the full national format is recommended. There is no overlay code in Khushab; the 4545 prefix is exclusively assigned to fixed-line services. Mobile numbers in Pakistan use separate non-geographic prefixes (e.g., 0300-0399) and cannot be reached via this code.

For foreign callers, it is essential to check with your service provider for international dialing charges. VoIP users should ensure that their provider supports calls to Pakistani geographic numbers and that the correct exit code (e.g., 00 or +) is used. When dialing from a mobile phone, the plus sign (+) can be used instead of the international access code.

As with all geographic codes in Pakistan, the 4545 prefix is not portable to other regions; it remains tied to the physical PSTN infrastructure of Khushab. This ensures that call routing remains deterministic and reliable.
