Dialing Formats

For callers within Mongolia, the national trunk prefix '0' is used before the area code. Thus, a local number in Khovd is dialed as 0 2432 XXX XX (where X represents the subscriber's 5-digit local number). For international callers, the format is +976 2432 XXX XX (or 976 2432 XXX XX when using the international access prefix from your country). Note that the leading '0' is omitted when dialing from abroad.

Geographic Coverage and Administration

The 2432 code covers the urban area of Khovd city and its immediate surroundings within Khovd Province. The province borders Bayan-Ölgii to the north, Zavkhan to the east, Govi-Altai to the south, and China's Xinjiang region to the west. Khovd city is the largest urban center in the region, serving as a commercial gateway for trade with China and Kazakhstan. The numbering allocation is administered by the Communications Regulatory Commission of Mongolia, which oversees the national numbering plan.

Caller Instructions

For local callers within Khovd, dialing a number in the same area code typically requires only the 5-digit subscriber number (XXX XX) if using a landline within the same exchange, but for clarity and to avoid misdialing, it is recommended to use the full national format: 0 2432 XXX XX. For callers from other regions in Mongolia, always use the trunk prefix '0' followed by the area code. For international callers, replace the trunk prefix with the country code +976 and drop the leading '0' of the area code.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest available data, there is no overlay code for Khovd city; the 2432 code remains the sole geographic code for the area. However, with the growth of VoIP and mobile services, some numbers may be ported to non-geographic networks, but the geographic code is retained for identification purposes. Always verify the number's validity with your service provider if you encounter issues.
