Overview of Area Code 1442 (Bayankhongor City)

Area code 1442 is the National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the geographic region of Bayankhongor City, the administrative center of Bayankhongor Province in Mongolia. This code is part of Mongolia's national numbering plan, which adheres to ITU-T E.164 recommendations. The geographic area served by this code covers the urban and suburban zones of Bayankhongor, including the central business district and surrounding residential areas.

For callers within Mongolia, dialing a local number in Bayankhongor requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber's local number. For example, to call a landline in Bayankhongor from elsewhere in Mongolia, you would dial: 0 1442 XXXX (where XXXX represents the 4-digit local subscriber number). Note that the total number of digits after the trunk prefix is typically 7, comprising the 4-digit area code and a 4-digit local number.

For international callers, the format changes: you must dial your country's international access code (e.g., 011 from North America, 00 from most European countries), followed by Mongolia's country code 976, then the area code 1442 without the leading trunk prefix '0', and finally the local number. Thus, an international call to Bayankhongor would be formatted as: +976 1442 XXXX.

Dialing Instructions and Overlays

When dialing locally within Bayankhongor, the use of the area code is optional for calls between landlines in the same geographic area, depending on the specific carrier's dialing plan. However, for clarity and to avoid misdialing, it is recommended to always include the area code. As of the latest updates, there are no overlay codes in Bayankhongor; the 1442 code serves the entire city and its immediate surroundings. The Mongolian Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) manages the allocation of numbering resources, ensuring that geographic codes are used solely for fixed-line services within their designated regions.

For callers from other countries, it is essential to note that Mongolian numbers may have varying lengths, and the local subscriber number length can differ. Always verify the complete number with the recipient to ensure accuracy. Additionally, while mobile numbers in Mongolia are non-geographic and begin with 8 or 9, landline numbers like those in Bayankhongor are strictly geographic and tied to the physical location of the line.

In summary, area code 1442 is a vital component of Mongolia's telecommunications infrastructure, enabling reliable fixed-line connectivity for residents and businesses in Bayankhongor City. Understanding the correct dialing procedures ensures seamless communication both domestically and internationally.
