Area Code 216 – Camenca

Geographic Overview

The area code 216 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the town of Camenca and its surrounding administrative district within the Republic of Moldova. Camenca is located in the northern part of the country, on the left bank of the Dniester River, within the Transnistrian region. The code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services, and numbers under this prefix follow the standard Moldovan geographic numbering plan.

Dialing Formats

To call a fixed-line number in Camenca, the following formats apply:

• National format (within Moldova): dial 0 216 XXX XXX (where X represents the subscriber's digits). The leading 0 is the trunk prefix used for domestic calls.
• International format (from abroad): dial +373 216 XXX XXX. The +373 is Moldova's country calling code, and the leading 0 is omitted.

For example, a local number might be 0 216 2 34 56 in national format, or +373 216 2 34 56 internationally. When calling from a mobile phone within Moldova, the same national format applies.

Geographic Coverage and Administration

The 216 area code serves Camenca town and the surrounding localities within the Camenca District. This region is part of the administrative-territorial units on the left bank of the Dniester, which have a special legal status. Despite the political complexities, the numbering plan follows the national Moldovan framework, and calls to 216 numbers are routed through the national telecommunications infrastructure.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers (within Moldova): Always include the trunk prefix 0 before the area code when dialing from a different fixed-line zone or from a mobile phone. For example, from Chișinău, dial 0 216 XXX XXX.
• International callers: Use your country's international exit code (e.g., 00 from most European countries, 011 from North America), followed by 373, then 216 and the subscriber number. Do not include the trunk prefix 0.

Numbering and Overlays

Moldovan geographic numbers typically consist of 8 digits after the country code, including the area code. The 216 area code is not an overlay; it is a dedicated code for the Camenca region. As of the latest updates, there are no overlay plans for this area, meaning the code is unique to this geographic zone. Fixed-line numbers under 216 are used for residential and business landlines, and are not portable to mobile networks under the current numbering rules.
