Overview of Area Code 877 (Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila)
Area code 877 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to Ciudad Acuña, a city located in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, bordering the United States. This code is part of the Mexican numbering plan, which follows the ITU-T E.164 standard. The full international dialing format for a fixed-line number in this region is +52 877 XXX XXXX, where +52 is Mexico's country calling code, 877 is the area code, and the following seven digits constitute the subscriber number.
Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction
Ciudad Acuña serves as the municipal seat of the Acuña Municipality and is situated on the Rio Grande, directly across from Del Rio, Texas. The area code 877 encompasses the urban area of Ciudad Acuña and its surrounding localities within the municipality. This region is part of the larger Coahuila state, which borders Texas to the north. The code is administered under the regulatory oversight of the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT), Mexico's telecommunications regulatory body.
Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions
For local callers within Mexico, dialing a number in Ciudad Acuña requires the national long-distance prefix 01 followed by the area code and subscriber number: 01 877 XXX XXXX. However, if you are calling from a mobile phone within Mexico, you may need to dial 877 XXX XXXX directly, depending on your carrier's dialing conventions. For international callers, the format is +52 877 XXX XXXX (or 011 52 877 XXX XXXX when dialing from the United States or Canada). It is important to note that when dialing internationally, the leading '0' of the national prefix is omitted.
Overlay Considerations and Numbering Changes
As of the latest IFT updates, area code 877 does not have an overlay code. This means that the 877 code is the sole area code serving Ciudad Acuña, and no additional area codes have been introduced for this region. Consequently, local dialing within the area code typically requires only the seven-digit subscriber number for calls within the same area code, though this may vary by carrier. Subscribers should verify with their service provider for any specific dialing instructions.
