Area Code 3126 – Bishkek, Chuy region

Geographic Overview and Coverage

The area code 3126 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned within the Kyrgyz Republic's national numbering plan, operating under the country calling code +996. It serves a specific administrative sector of the Chuy Region (Чүй облусу), which surrounds and includes parts of the capital, Bishkek. While the capital city of Bishkek primarily uses the shorter code 312, the longer code 3126 is allocated to suburban and rural localities within the Bishkek metropolitan zone, including settlements such as Lebedinovka, Orto-Say, and the surrounding agricultural and residential areas. This distinction is crucial for correct call routing, as the Kyrgyz numbering plan uses variable-length NDCs to differentiate between the central urban zone and its periphery.

Dialing Formats and Procedures

For callers within Kyrgyzstan, the national dialing format is 0 (3126) XXX-XXX, where the leading trunk prefix 0 is used to access the national PSTN. For example, to call a fixed line in the 3126 area from another part of the country, one would dial 0 3126 123456. International callers must omit the trunk prefix and dial +996 3126 123456 or +996 3126 123456 from their respective country, using the plus sign followed by the country code, NDC, and the subscriber number. The subscriber number length within the 3126 area is typically six digits, making the total national significant number (NSN) nine digits (excluding the trunk prefix).

Caller Instructions and Regulatory Notes

Local callers within the same 3126 area may need to dial the full national number, as Kyrgyzstan has moved towards uniform dialing procedures to support number portability and overlay services. The State Communications Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic regulates the numbering plan. As of recent updates, there are no overlay codes for 3126, meaning the area is served solely by this NDC. However, with the ongoing digitalization of the PSTN, some fixed lines may be migrated to VoIP backbones, but the geographic significance of the code remains for emergency services and lawful call tracing. For callers from mobile networks, it is advisable to store numbers in international format (+996 3126 ...) to ensure compatibility when roaming or using VoIP applications. Always verify the subscriber number length, as some older lines may have fewer digits, but the standard is six digits after the area code.
