Area Code 1586 – Nakayubetsu, Hokkaido

The +81 1586 area code is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) within the Japanese numbering plan, assigned to the Nakayubetsu region in Hokkaido Prefecture. This area code covers the town of Nakayubetsu (now part of Shinhidaka Town after municipal mergers) and its surrounding districts, including the former Nakayubetsu Town area. Located in the Hidaka Subprefecture of Hokkaido, this region is known for its agricultural and dairy industries.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Nakayubetsu is situated in the southern part of Hokkaido, along the Pacific coast. The area code 01586 serves the Nakayubetsu district, which is now integrated into Shinhidaka Town. This includes the central Nakayubetsu area and nearby rural communities. The administrative jurisdiction falls under the Hidaka Subprefecture, with Shinhidaka Town serving as the local government entity.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For local callers within the Nakayubetsu area, the short dialing format is used: dial the area code (01586) followed by the subscriber number (typically 5 digits), omitting the national trunk prefix '0' when dialing internationally. The full national format is 01586-X-XXXX, where X-XXXX represents the local subscriber number.

For international callers, the format is +81 1586 X-XXXX (or +811586X-XXXX when dialed without spaces). The leading '0' of the area code is dropped when dialing from abroad. For example, to call a Nakayubetsu number with subscriber number 2-3456, you would dial +81 1586 2-3456 from overseas.

For local calls within Nakayubetsu, simply dial the subscriber number without the area code. However, if you are calling from outside the Nakayubetsu area but within Japan, you must dial 01586 followed by the subscriber number.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest updates, there is no overlay plan for the 01586 area code. The area code remains exclusive to the Nakayubetsu region. However, users should be aware that Japan's numbering plan allows for future overlays if number exhaustion occurs, though this is unlikely given the rural nature of the area.

It is important to note that the area code 01586 is distinct from the nearby 01458 area code, which serves the neighboring town of Mitsuishi. Callers should verify the correct area code to avoid misdialing.

Practical Guidance for Callers

• Local callers: Dial the 5-digit subscriber number directly.
• National callers (outside area): Dial 01586 followed by the subscriber number.
• International callers: Dial +81 1586 followed by the subscriber number (drop the leading '0').

For businesses or individuals in Nakayubetsu, it is advisable to display numbers in international format (+81 1586 X-XXXX) on websites and global directories to facilitate overseas communication.
