Area Code 757 – Balai Selasa

Overview of Area Code 757 (Balai Selasa, Indonesia)

Area code 757 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the Balai Selasa region in the province of Lampung, on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. This code is part of the Indonesian public switched telephone network (PSTN) numbering plan, which follows the ITU-T E.164 recommendation. The international dialing format for a fixed-line number in Balai Selasa is +62 757 XXX XXXX, where +62 is the country calling code for Indonesia, 757 is the area code, and the subscriber number typically consists of 7 to 8 digits, depending on the local exchange capacity.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 757 area code serves the Balai Selasa district, which is located in the Pesisir Barat Regency (West Coast Regency) of Lampung Province. This region is situated along the southwestern coast of Sumatra, facing the Indian Ocean. The area is known for its coastal geography and agricultural activities. The administrative center of the district is the town of Balai Selasa, which functions as the primary hub for local telecommunications. The code also covers surrounding villages and sub-districts within the Pesisir Barat administrative region, including areas such as Pesisir Selatan and Lemong, which are served by the same local exchange.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Indonesia, dialing a fixed-line number in Balai Selasa requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. The national dialing format is 0757 XXX XXXX. For example, to call a local number 123 4567 from another city in Indonesia, you would dial 0757 123 4567. For international callers, the format is +62 757 123 4567 (or 62 757 123 4567 if using the international prefix from your country). It is important to note that when dialing from a mobile phone within Indonesia, the trunk prefix 0 is still required for fixed-line calls, as mobile numbers have their own distinct prefixes.

Overlay Considerations and Numbering

As of the current numbering plan, there is no overlay code for the 757 area. The code is exclusively assigned to the Balai Selasa geographic region. Subscriber numbers within this code are allocated by the local fixed-line operator, which is primarily PT Telkom Indonesia (the incumbent operator). In recent years, with the growth of VoIP and mobile services, some fixed-line numbers may be routed over IP networks, but the geographic significance of the code remains unchanged. Callers should be aware that while the code is geographic, the actual physical location of the called party may vary if number portability is implemented in the future, but as of now, the code reliably indicates the Balai Selasa area.

Practical Tips for Callers

When calling Balai Selasa from abroad, ensure you have the correct international access code (e.g., 011 from the US, 00 from most European countries) followed by 62 and then 757 and the local number. Do not include the leading 0 of the national dialing format when dialing internationally. For local calls within Balai Selasa, you may be able to dial only the subscriber number if you are within the same local calling area, but it is safer to use the full national format. Always verify the number length, as some subscriber numbers may have 7 digits, while others may have 8, depending on the exchange.
