Area Code 729 – Pringsewu

Geographic Overview

The +62 729 country and area code combination is assigned to the Pringsewu region in the province of Lampung, on the southern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia. Pringsewu is a regency (kabupaten) that was established in 2008, having previously been part of the Tanggamus Regency. The area code covers the administrative capital, Pringsewu City, as well as the surrounding districts (kecamatan) such as Sukoharjo, Gading Rejo, and Pagelaran. This geographic code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services within the Pringsewu telephony exchange area, which is part of the larger Lampung numbering plan.

Dialing Formats

To call a fixed-line number in Pringsewu from within Indonesia, you must dial the trunk prefix 0, followed by the area code 729, and then the subscriber number. The subscriber number length in the 729 area code typically ranges from 5 to 7 digits, depending on the specific exchange and the service provider. The full national significant number (NSN) is 9 to 11 digits, including the leading '0'.

For international callers, the format is: +62 729 xxx xxxx (replacing the leading '0' with the country code +62). For example, a local number such as 0729 12345 would be dialed as +62 729 12345 from abroad. When dialing within the same area code, it is often possible to omit the area code and simply dial the subscriber number, but this practice may vary depending on the operator and the specific number configuration.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T E.164 national numbering plan updates, there is no overlay code for the 729 area. The code remains exclusively assigned to the Pringsewu geographic region. However, with the ongoing migration of fixed-line services to VoIP and NGN (Next Generation Networks), some operators may route calls based on number portability, but the geographic significance of the prefix remains for regulatory and routing purposes.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers (within Pringsewu): If you are calling from a fixed-line phone within the same area code, you may be able to dial only the subscriber number. However, if you are calling from a mobile phone, you must always include the area code: 0729 xxx xxxx.
• Domestic long-distance callers (from other Indonesian regions): Dial 0-729-xxx-xxxx.
• International callers: Dial your country's exit code (e.g., 00 or 011), then Indonesia's country code 62, then 729, and the subscriber number. Omit the leading '0'. Example: +62 729 12345.

Service Providers and Usage

Fixed-line services in Pringsewu are primarily provided by PT Telkom Indonesia (Telkom) and its subsidiary Telkomsel for fixed wireless access (FWA) products. Other operators may also offer services in the area, but Telkom remains the dominant PSTN provider. The subscriber numbers are used for residential and business landlines, including internet (DSL) and VoIP services that are tied to the physical location.
