Area Code 8834 – Rajahmundri, Andhra Pradesh

Overview of Area Code 8834

Area code 8834 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) within the Indian telecommunications numbering plan, governed by the ITU-T E.164 standard and administered by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). It is assigned to the city of Rajahmundry (also spelled Rajahmundri), located in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. This code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services within the Rajahmundry telephony exchange area, which includes the city and its surrounding suburban and rural regions.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 8834 area code serves the Rajahmundry urban agglomeration and nearby towns such as Kovvur, Kadiam, and Rajanagaram. Administratively, it falls under the Andhra Pradesh telecom circle. The region is a major cultural and economic hub, known for its agricultural trade, textile industries, and as a pilgrimage center on the banks of the Godavari River.

Dialing Formats

For local calls within Rajahmundry (same STD code), subscribers can dial the 7-digit subscriber number directly. For calls from other parts of India, the format is:

• 0-8834-XXXXXXX (trunk prefix '0' followed by the area code and subscriber number)

For international callers, the format is:

• +91-8834-XXXXXXX (India's country code +91, followed by the area code without the leading '0', and the subscriber number)

Example: To call a Rajahmundry landline number 2345678 from abroad, dial +91 8834 2345678.

Number Length and Structure

Subscriber numbers in the 8834 area code are 7 digits long, making the total national significant number (NSN) length 10 digits when combined with the area code (excluding the trunk prefix). This is standard for Indian geographic numbering.

Overlay and Dialing Considerations

As of the latest DoT updates, there is no overlay code for Rajahmundry; 8834 remains the sole geographic code for the region. However, with the expansion of telecommunication services, some numbers may be allocated for VoIP or fixed wireless services, but they still follow the same dialing rules. Callers should always include the area code when dialing from outside the local area to ensure proper routing.

Caller Instructions

For local callers within Rajahmundry, direct dialing without the area code is sufficient. For domestic long-distance callers, the prefix '0' is mandatory. International callers must use the '+' sign or the international access code of their country, followed by India's country code and the area code. It is advisable to check with your service provider for any specific dialing requirements, especially for VoIP or mobile users.
