Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Agua Caliente is a municipality located in the department of Copán, near the border with Guatemala. The area code 2652 serves not only the urban center of Agua Caliente but also the surrounding rural communities and aldeas within the municipality. The region is known for its mountainous terrain and coffee production. The administrative jurisdiction of this code falls under the regulatory oversight of the Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL), Honduras' national telecommunications regulatory body.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Honduras, dialing a local number in Agua Caliente requires only the eight-digit NSN: 2652-XXXX. No trunk prefix (such as '0') is used in the Honduran dialing plan. For international callers, the full international format must be used: +504 2652-XXXX (or 011 504 2652-XXXX when dialing from North America). When placing a call from a mobile phone, the same eight-digit number is dialed, as there are no separate area codes for mobile vs. fixed lines in Honduras.

Overlay Considerations and Numbering Plan

Currently, there is no overlay code for Agua Caliente; the 2652 code is exclusive to this geographic area. However, as part of the national numbering plan, CONATEL has implemented number pooling and portability measures. While fixed-line numbers are generally tied to the geographic location, number portability allows users to retain their number when changing service providers, though the geographic significance of the code remains for routing purposes. The Honduran numbering plan does not use variable-length NSNs; all numbers are uniformly eight digits.
