Area Code 2555 – Rivera Hernandez, San Pedro Sula

The +504 2555 numbering block is a geographic allocation within the Honduran national numbering plan, specifically designated for the Rivera Hernandez area of San Pedro Sula, the country's second-largest city and industrial hub. As a National Destination Code (NDC) under the ITU-T E.164 standard, 2555 routes calls to fixed-line subscribers within a defined exchange area of the Cortés department.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Context

San Pedro Sula serves as the capital of the Cortés department and is the epicenter of Honduras's manufacturing and maquiladora industries. The 2555 prefix covers residential and commercial districts in the Rivera Hernandez neighborhood, a mixed-use zone characterized by local businesses, service providers, and middle-income housing. The exchange is managed by a licensed fixed-line operator, typically Hondutel or a private concessionaire, and is subject to the regulatory oversight of the Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL).

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For international callers, the complete number format is +504 2555 XXXX, where XXXX represents the four-digit subscriber line number. The total length of a Honduran geographic number is eight digits, including the NDC. When dialing from abroad, replace the international access code (e.g., 011 from the US, 00 from most European countries) with the + sign, followed by the country code 504 and the full national number.

Domestic callers within Honduras must dial the eight-digit number directly, omitting the +504 prefix. For example, a local call to a Rivera Hernandez subscriber would be placed as 2555 XXXX. There is no trunk prefix or area code separation within Honduras; the entire eight-digit sequence is dialed nationally. This uniform dialing plan simplifies call routing and eliminates the need for local area codes.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest CONATEL updates, the 2555 prefix does not have an overlay code. However, number portability exists for fixed-line services, allowing subscribers to retain their numbers when switching operators within the same geographic area. This means that a number beginning with 2555 may be served by a different carrier than the original assignee, but the geographic association remains tied to the Rivera Hernandez exchange.

Practical Usage and Reliability

Fixed-line services in this region are typically used for business communications, internet via DSL, and traditional voice. For international callers, it is essential to verify the current number length and any dialing changes with the service provider, as numbering plan modifications can occur. When contacting a business or resident in Rivera Hernandez, always confirm the complete eight-digit number to avoid misdialing.
