Area Code 2446 – Olanchito

Overview of Area Code 2446 (Olanchito, Honduras)

Area code 2446 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the city of Olanchito, located in the Yoro Department of Honduras. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL), following ITU-T E.164 recommendations. Olanchito is a significant agricultural and commercial hub in the northern region of the country, and this code serves both residential and business fixed-line subscribers within its local service area.

Dialing Formats

When calling a fixed-line number in Olanchito, the complete national (trunk) number is eight digits long, comprising the area code (2446) followed by a four-digit subscriber number (e.g., 2446-XXXX). The international format for calling from abroad is +504 2446-XXXX, where +504 is the country calling code for Honduras. For local calls within Olanchito, callers can typically dial only the four-digit subscriber number, depending on the specific local dialing procedures. However, for clarity and to avoid misdialing, it is recommended to always use the full national number when calling from a mobile phone or from outside the local exchange area.

Geographic Coverage and Administration

The 2446 area code covers the urban and suburban zones of Olanchito, including its central district and surrounding neighborhoods. Olanchito is the second-largest city in Yoro Department and serves as a commercial center for the Aguán River valley. The code is exclusively geographic, meaning that the number is tied to a physical location and cannot be ported to other regions of Honduras. Fixed-line services are provided by the national incumbent operator, Hondutel, as well as private operators that have been granted concessions to offer PSTN and VoIP services in the area.

Calling Instructions

• Local callers (within Olanchito): If your telephone line is within the same exchange, you may dial only the four-digit subscriber number. However, if you are using a mobile phone or a line from a different exchange, dial the full national number: 2446-XXXX.
• National callers (from other cities in Honduras): Dial 2446-XXXX (without the country code).
• International callers: Dial your country's international access prefix (e.g., 011 from the US/Canada), followed by 504 (Honduras country code), then 2446 and the four-digit subscriber number: +504 2446-XXXX.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest CONATEL updates, there is no overlay code for Olanchito; the 2446 code is unique to this geographic area. However, with the growth of fixed-line services, CONATEL may introduce additional numbering resources in the future. It is important to note that while mobile numbers in Honduras also begin with the country code +504, they are non-geographic and are identified by their own NDCs (e.g., 3xxx, 8xxx, 9xxx). Therefore, a number starting with 2446 is always a fixed-line service in Olanchito.
