📍 Geographic Location of Soufli
Geographic Context and Coverage
The +30 2554 prefix is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the Soufli telephone exchange area in the Evros regional unit, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Soufli, a town known for its silk heritage, sits near the Evros River and the Greek-Turkish border. This code covers the town of Soufli and its surrounding settlements, including administrative and rural zones within the municipal unit. The numbering area follows the Greek fixed-line telephony plan, where geographic codes are allocated by the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) to the incumbent operator OTE and alternative local loop providers.
Dialing Formats and Procedures
For domestic callers within Greece, the number must be dialed in the national format: 2554 0XXXX (where X represents the subscriber's 4-digit line number), preceded by the trunk prefix '0'. The full national number is 10 digits, including the leading zero. For international callers, the leading zero is omitted, and the number is dialed as +30 2554 0XXXX or 0030 2554 0XXXX from countries using the international prefix 00. Subscriber numbers in Soufli typically have 4 digits, resulting in a total length of 10 digits for national calls and 12 digits for international calls (including the country code).
Caller Instructions
When calling from another Greek fixed or mobile line, simply dial 2554 0XXXX. No additional area code is required because 2554 already includes the geographic routing information. For callers from abroad, replace the leading '0' with the Greek country code +30, so the complete international format becomes +30 2554 0XXXX. Ensure you have the correct subscriber number, as omitting the leading zero or misdialing the 4-digit line number will result in a failed call.
Overlays and Number Portability
Currently, there is no overlay code for the Soufli area; the 2554 code is exclusively used for this geographic region. However, Greek fixed-line subscribers may retain their numbers when switching providers (local number portability), so a number with the 2554 prefix may be served by any licensed fixed operator, not only OTE. This does not affect the dialing procedure, but it may influence call charges depending on the subscriber's chosen carrier.
