Area Code 479 – Chiatura

Geographic Overview

The +995 479 area code is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the city of Chiatura and its surrounding administrative district in the Imereti region of western Georgia. Chiatura is a historic mining town known for its manganese extraction industry and distinctive aerial tramway network. The numbering area covers the town itself and nearby villages within the Chiatura Municipality, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Imereti regional administration.

Dialing Formats

For callers within Georgia, the national trunk prefix 0 must be dialed before the area code. The complete national format is 0 479 XXX XXX, where the subscriber number consists of six digits. Internationally, callers must use the Georgian country code +995 followed by the area code without the leading zero: +995 479 XXX XXX. For example, a local call to a Chiatura landline would be dialed as 0 479 123 456, while an international caller would dial +995 479 123 456.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers within Chiatura: If you are calling from another number within the same area code, you may still need to dial the full national number (0 479 XXX XXX) depending on the local network configuration. Always verify with your service provider.
• Domestic callers from other Georgian regions: Dial 0 479 XXX XXX.
• International callers: Dial your country's international access code (e.g., 00 or +), then 995 479 XXX XXX.

Numbering and Overlay Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T E.164 national numbering plan updates, the 479 area code does not have an overlay code. Subscriber numbers are six digits long, resulting in a total national significant number length of nine digits (including the leading 0). The Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) manages the allocation of numbers within this range. No major changes to the numbering plan are currently scheduled, but users should monitor official announcements for any future modifications.

Practical Usage

The 479 code is used exclusively for fixed-line PSTN services. Mobile numbers in Georgia use separate non-geographic prefixes (e.g., 5xx). When contacting businesses or residents in Chiatura, ensure you have the correct six-digit subscriber number. For international callers, it is essential to replace the trunk prefix 0 with the country code +995 to avoid dialing errors.
