Area Code 825 – Suining, Sichuan

Overview of Area Code +86 825

Area code 825 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to Suining, a prefecture-level city in the eastern part of Sichuan Province, People's Republic of China. When dialing from abroad, the full international number format is +86 825 XXXX XXXX, where +86 is the country calling code for China and 825 is the area code for Suining. Within China, callers outside Suining dial 0825 followed by the 8-digit local subscriber number, while local calls within Suining can be made using just the 8-digit number (without the area code) in most cases, though some legacy systems may still require the full 11-digit format.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Suining is situated in the central Sichuan Basin, along the Fu River. It administers two districts (Chuanshan and Anju), one county-level city (Shehong), and two counties (Daying and Pengxi). The area code 825 covers all these administrative divisions, providing PSTN, VoIP, and mobile services (though mobile numbers in China are not tied to geographic area codes). The city is known for its electronics manufacturing and tourism, with attractions like the Suining Lotus World and the ancient town of Daying.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

• Local calls (within Suining): Dial the 8-digit subscriber number directly. For example, to call a local landline number 2233 4455, simply dial 2233 4455.
• Domestic long-distance calls (from other Chinese cities): Dial the trunk prefix 0, then the area code 825, followed by the 8-digit number. For instance, from Beijing, dial 0825 2233 4455.
• International calls (from outside China): Dial the international access prefix (e.g., 00 from most countries), then China's country code 86, then the area code 825 (without the leading 0), and finally the 8-digit number. For example, from the United States, dial 011 86 825 2233 4455 or from the UK, dial 00 86 825 2233 4455.

Overlay and Numbering Plan Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T E.164 national numbering plan updates, China has not implemented overlay codes for Suining; the 825 area code remains the sole geographic code for the region. The subscriber numbers are 8 digits long, and the total length of a national significant number (NSN) is 11 digits (excluding the trunk prefix 0). This structure is consistent with the Chinese national numbering plan, which mandates 11-digit numbers for all fixed and mobile services.

For businesses and individuals in Suining, it is essential to display numbers in international format (+86 825 XXXX XXXX) on websites and global directories to facilitate seamless communication with international clients. When traveling abroad, callers should remember to drop the leading 0 from the area code when dialing internationally.
