Area Code 774 – Wuzhou, Guangxi

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The +86 774 area code is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to Wuzhou (梧州), a prefecture-level city located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southern China. The code covers the entire administrative area of Wuzhou, including its urban districts (Wanxiu, Changzhou, Longxu) and the surrounding counties and county-level cities under its jurisdiction, such as Cangwu County, Teng County, Mengshan County, and Cenxi City. This allocation follows the ITU-T E.164 international numbering plan, where the country code +86 is followed by the NDC and the subscriber number.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For local callers within Wuzhou, the area code is typically omitted when dialing a fixed-line number; only the 7-digit local subscriber number is required. However, for calls made from other regions within China (including mobile phones), callers must dial the full domestic trunk prefix 0 followed by 774 and the 7-digit subscriber number (e.g., 0 774 XXX XXXX). International callers from outside China must dial the international access prefix (00 or +) followed by 86, then 774 (without the leading 0), and the 7-digit subscriber number. For example, a call from the United States to a fixed line in Wuzhou would be dialed as 011 86 774 XXX XXXX or +86 774 XXX XXXX.

Numbering Structure and Overlay Considerations

Fixed-line subscriber numbers in Wuzhou are 7 digits long, resulting in a total national significant number (NSN) length of 12 digits when combined with the country code and area code (excluding trunk prefix). As of the latest ITU-T national numbering plan updates, there is no overlay code for Wuzhou; the 774 code remains exclusive to the geographic region. This means that local calls within Wuzhou do not require 10-digit dialing, and the area code is only used for inter-city or international calls. The numbering capacity is sufficient for the current population and business density, though future expansions may introduce additional NDCs if demand exceeds supply.

PSTN and VoIP Interoperability

Wuzhou's fixed-line network is part of China's public switched telephone network (PSTN), operated primarily by China Telecom and China Unicom. Voice over IP (VoIP) services, including those provided by operators like China Mobile's fixed-line division, are also assigned numbers under this code. When calling from abroad, the call is routed through international gateways to the PSTN, ensuring seamless connectivity. For VoIP users, the same dialing rules apply, but they must ensure that their service provider supports international dialing to China and that the number is correctly formatted with the +86 country code.
