Area Code 762 – Heyuan, Guangdong

Overview of Area Code +86 762

Area code 762 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to Heyuan City in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province, China. It is part of the country's open dialing plan, where the trunk prefix '0' is used for domestic long-distance calls, followed by the area code and the local subscriber number. The international format replaces the leading '0' with the country code +86, so callers from abroad dial +86 762 followed by the local number.

Geographic Coverage and Administration

Heyuan is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. The area code 762 serves the entire administrative region of Heyuan, including its central urban districts and subordinate counties. Key areas covered include:

• Yuancheng District – the main urban center and seat of the municipal government.
• Dongyuan County – located to the east, known for its scenic reservoirs and agricultural production.
• Heping County – a mountainous area in the northeast, bordering Jiangxi Province.
• Longchuan County – the largest county in Heyuan by population, situated in the southeast.
• Lianping County – in the north, known for its mineral resources and natural landscapes.
• Zijin County – in the south, along the Dong River.

Heyuan is often referred to as the 'Water City' because it is the source of the Dong River, which supplies drinking water to major cities like Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The area code 762 is exclusively used for fixed-line (PSTN) services in this region.

Dialing Formats and Instructions

For local calls within Heyuan, callers typically dial the 7- or 8-digit subscriber number directly, depending on the specific exchange. However, for calls from other parts of China, the format is:

• Domestic long-distance: 0 762 XXXX XXXX
• International from abroad: +86 762 XXXX XXXX

For example, a local number in Heyuan might be 0762-1234567 (domestic) or +86 762 1234567 (international). It is important to note that when dialing from a mobile phone in China, the trunk prefix '0' is still required for landline calls to Heyuan unless the number is stored in international format with +86.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest ITU-T and MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) records, there is no overlay code for Heyuan; 762 remains the sole area code for the region. However, with the growth of telecommunications services, the local number length may vary. Always verify the exact number of digits with the local carrier or the recipient to ensure successful connection.

For businesses and individuals planning to contact Heyuan, it is essential to use the correct international prefix (+86) when calling from outside China, and to omit the leading '0' of the domestic trunk prefix in international dialing.
